Review: Karnivool With Intervals

Intervals is a really heavy four piece prog  instrumental metal outfit from Toronto. Aaron Marshall – guitars, Nathan Bulla – drums, percussion, Jacob Umansky – bass and Travis LeVrier – guitars. They are as tight a unit as I have seen in recent years and boy what a drummer Nathan Bulla is. No vocals but the instruments certainly did the talking.

They had a respectable 45 minute slot and they took full advantage with a rammed auditorium enjoying every minute it seemed. Well deserved applause and they certainly made an impact.

Karnivool is an Australian progressive rock or should I say metal band formed in Perth in 1998. Since 2004, the group has consisted of Ian Kenny on vocals, Drew Goddard and Mark Hosking on guitar, Jon Stockman on bass, and Steve Judd on drums. The band has released four studio albums to date: ‘Themata’ (2005), ‘Sound Awake’ (2009), ‘Asymmetry’ (2013) and latest release ‘In Verses’ (2026).

This was my first time seeing these guys but this certainly was not the case for the multitude selling out The Roundhouse. This band has a very strong fan base and the relatively young audience made me feel ancient.
