Tiffany Kills are a six piece band from the Netherlands, and their debut album ‘World On Fire’ is a state of the planet reflection that hits hard musically and lyrically. The six members are vocalists Mendy Sneijers and John ‘Jaycee’ Cuijpers, drummer Tom Wetzels, bassist Tom Baer and guitarists Christian Tolle and Mathias ‘Don’ Dieth. This sextet have been together since 2023 and they are now ready to unleash their sound, so let’s take a listen.
‘I’ll Come Running’ is the album opener and it kicks things off with a classic heavy rock sound that showcases Jaycee Cuijpers blistering vocals. He has a real depth and power to his voice and he is up with some of the best in my opinion. The song itself has a great combination of wall of sound with an irresistible melody that really hits home.
The second track ‘Star Rider’ starts off with the twin guitars of Christian Tolle and Don Dieth which are front and centre throughout. It’s more of a melodic rock track than the opener and it gives a real flavour of the way that this group can combine a range of different influences.
‘Breathless’ is a gorgeous rock ballad that just oozes class from the first note. It is a great example of how to construct a tune as the solo verses wash over the listener leaving a tune that gets stuck in the head, before the chorus gives the audience a great chance for a singalong. It’s my favourite track on a very strong ‘A side’.
‘The Higher They Climb’ reflects on the dream that all artists have of making it big with their music. Vocally, it’s excellent with another great performance by Cuijpers and really effective harmonies with Mendy Sneijers.
‘Pulling My Trigger’ starts off with a call out that reminds me of vintage Slade tracks and the track has a musical heritage that can be traced back to those early 70s rock bands. It is yet another superb track to finish off the first half of the album.
The ‘B side’ of the album starts off with title track ‘World On Fire’, a track underpinned by great drumming from Tom Wetzels and pounding basslines courtesy of Tom Baer. Once again, it is a track that shows their huge musical hinterland as it harks back to NWOBHM powerhouses like Judas Priest.
‘Too Young’ is another guitar led powerhouse of a song that has a great tune and a driving rhythm anchored by the brilliant drumming of Wetzels once again.
‘Caught in the Middle’ starts off with a country rock style guitar and then becomes a Bon Jovi style track that shouldn’t really work but it does!
Penultimate track ‘Rock My World’ does exactly that with possibly Cuijpers best vocal on the album, which, given the competition, is really saying something. It is tight, vital and played with supreme skill from first note to last. It’s my favourite on the second half of the album.
The final track is ‘In and Outta Love’ which ends the album with a tune that reminds me of Rainbow whose musical prowess took them into the charts in the late 70s and early 80s. It is an excellent and fitting end to an album that doesn’t have a weak track on it.
With their ability to showcase and refresh a variety of rock genres Tiffany Kills remind me of the UK’s Cats in Space and I can really see a tour featuring the two of them back-to-back going down an absolute storm. So what about it?!
