Review: The Dead Daisies – Lookin’ For Trouble

First off I’m just gonna say it, I fkn love this band!!

Thank the lord they’ve got Corabi back. Hughes wasn’t a good fit for me. Anyway …….

Whilst down in Nashville recording the excellent ‘Light’m Up’ they thought let’s soak in the vibe of the place and record a covers album while we’re at it. 

Now covers can be like most things I suppose, quite subjective. Some bands do it note for note and some do something else with it and take it somewhere else and they’re normally the ones that interest me the most. This is most certainly the case here. 

I won’t go in to detail on how they’ve done this in every song. That’s your job! But the two that really stand out for me because they’re different and just outstanding, well the whole album is, but ‘Black Betty‘ & ‘The Thrill Is Gone’ are just so well done.

‘Black Betty’ – well, imagine ZZ Top just grinding on this one, with a killer groove that’s an instant get you on your feet song, and then there’s the wonderfully atmospheric ‘The Thrill is Gone’ with a truckload of reverb on it, that will just take you to a different dimension!

All in all this is a fine, no hold on, it’s an outstanding covers album by a band that just know their stuff!
