Review: The Dead Daisies – Burn It Down

Spitfire Music (April 2018)

Reviewer: David Mark Pearce

Okay, let’s bake a cake – a “Rock” cake, of course! Let’s see …… as it’s a “Rock” Cake we’ll need some very specific ingredients: a dash of Kiss; a couple of teaspoons of Grand Funk Railroad; some Black Sabbath; a pinch of Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Whitesnake and Motley Crüe, then blend with some Jack Daniels. When the mix is ready, place in the rock ‘n’ roll oven for the last fifty odd years and ta daaaaa – you have yourself the new Dead Daisies album.

It’s now ready to serve so here goes but, wait, it’s so hot when it comes out of the oven that your house goes up in flames. Yes, the tenuous link has arrived, the band did indeed ‘Burn It Down‘ lol. We got there in the end! In a roundabout way, what I’m saying is that this is a band which truly wears every single one of its’ influences on its’ sleeve and when it comes to solo sections in a live setting, they play them in place of just the normal solos one might expect to hear.

I think, though, there are less sing a long choruses and hooks on this album (if compared to their previous one,) but that trade off has been balanced by the heavier direction they’ve taken on this album. Does it deter in any way, I hear you ask? No, not in my opinion. This band is superb and is just a straight ahead, good old fashioned, rock band.

Someone said to me they were just a rich man’s plaything. Well, he may well be indulging himself and employing some of the best musicians around. If I had the money, I would – but, so what. These guys are still putting their respective names to something and you’re only as good as the last thing you do, so I would dismiss that statement as rubbish and ignorant, to a large degree!

Anyway, if I were you, I’d buy your very own slice of The Dead Daisies version of a rock cake and enjoy the new album, as there is plenty on offer to digest!

The Dead Daisies have released an Official video for ‘Resurrected‘, taken from their forthcoming new album ‘Burn It Down‘.

John Corabi about the new record: “I’m extremely excited about our new record ‘Burn It Down‘! It was a pleasure to once again work with Marti Frederiksen and the band on what I believe is the next great step in The Dead Daisies journey. This is a balls-out old school rock record!!! Enjoy it, and see you all on our massive 2018 world tour!!!! Peace, Crabby

Doug Aldrich puts it quite simply, yet to the point: “The new Daisies album will melt your face! It is raw and in-your-face with a whole new sound!

John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Scream)

The festival’s Eleventh Coming came to pass, but Jonni Davis and his team are already putting together their Glorious Twelfth for 2018.  HRH are thus proud to announce a first salvo of storming acts, chosen by the fans, who’ll be performing amidst the beautiful backdrop of North Wales, at Camp HRH in Pwllheli from 8th -11th November 2018.

The ever-mighty Saxon will be headlining HRH XII. Saxon need no introduction to fans of the genre, who’ll see their iconic logo in their mind’s eye the moment the band gets mentioned. Formed back in ’77, Saxon were at the forefront of the scene, much beloved by fans of Hard Rock Hell. What’s more, Saxon played the very first Hard Rock Hell (the Winter Ball, back in 2007). Having sold more than 15 million albums worldwide, the band also continues to influence later giants of the genre, like Metallica, Metallica, Mötley Crüe, and Pantera, and will be raising the rafters at HRH XII.

Co-headliners  The Dead Daisies are a formidable Australian-American outfit that brings together amazing talent for this collective project. The band has toured worldwide and was the first the first Western rock band to play Cuba after President Obama reopened trade ties with the country. An amazing achievement. Have a cigar, as the saying goes! The Dead Daisies will be bringing their world-famous Live and Loud sound to Hard Rock Hell next year.

Like Saxon, Girlschool played the very first Hard Rock Hell, way back when the world was young. Firm favourites of the HRH crowd, Girlschool have just won the HRH “Angels of Rock” award at the brand-new HRH AWARDS. They’re the longest running all-female rock band IN THE WORLD, and still strong and active after more than 35 years in the business.

Femme Fatale were due to play HRH XI, but weren’t able to do so because some of their guitarists were playing on another project. HRH are delighted to welcome the band to HRH XII. Listing “Loud Guitars, Vodka, Black Boots, Black Eyeliner, & Beer!” as the band’s interests, Femme Fatale will bring all this and more to Camp HRH next year!

Also announced in the very tasty first wave of bands playing the festival are Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, Tygers of Pan Tang, Thunderstick, Ryders Creed, The Rising Souls, The Dukes of Bordello, and (appropriately for HRH XII) Renegade Twelve.

N.B. HRH has been busier and more popular than ever, particularly after the triumphant Eleventh Coming (which sold out LAST November). Tickets for HRX XII will sell out FAST, so book early! Ring Fleur on 0203 287 6684

Happy 4th of July – Rock With The Daisies

With July 4th just around the corner, The Dead Daisies wanted to not only celebrate Independence Day but Freedom around the world.

©RPR Media UK

Bassist Marco Mendoza sums it up nicely for all of us:

My career as a Musician has allowed me to travel around the World quite a few times to experience different lands & cultures. Back in the USA we live with the abundance of life and freedom unequalled anywhere else and that’s a fact! On July 4th let’s fly the flag high and celebrate Independence Day and all it stands for!!! I for one am thankful & grateful to be able to live in the US OF A!!! The land of the free & the home of the brave!! VIVA THE USA and VIVA LA ROCK!!!!

To that end, the band is proud to announce the release of an American Classic ‘We’re An American Band‘ in celebration of Independence Day and all it stands for. They will also drop a little video for it on July 4th.

©RPR Media UK

Singer John Corabi: “We first did ‘American Band‘ by Grand Funk Railroad for our troops in South Korea. We wanted to bring a little bit of something “American” to our men and women in uniform, and give them a taste of home. So, what better way than a classic American tune by a legendary American band. The song went over so well we decided to keep playing it and subsequently decorded it for our “Live and Louder” album. Enjoy the Daisies version, the video, and your FREEDOM the troops are fighting for on this celebration of our independence as a young, sovereign nation!!!

Guitarist Doug Aldrich: “Hey Friends!!! We are dropping a new song to celebrate the 4th of July. For me, I think it’s a time to remember and appreciate the Freedom that all of our own countries provide for us. Stay strong and let the music move ya!

Fresh from their European Tour playing at some of the biggest Rock Festivals and Sold-Out headline shows, culminating in beyond capacity headline performances in Salzburg, Budapest, Prague & Japan, the band are making their way to the USA. Don’t miss them on their first-ever North American Headline Tour entitled ‘The Dirty Dozen‘ marching across the USA in August. The Dead Daisies’ latest live outing ‘Live & Louder‘ continues to garner explosive reviews around the world and is quickly becoming a fan favorite being viewed by them as “best sounding Live Album of all time”.

Rock & Roll is indeed alive and well!!!

High Octane, rip-roaring hard rockers The Dead Daisies are proud to announce a monumental return to Woodstock Poland featuring in a gripping headline performance at a special ‘Concert For Freedom‘ with The Gorzow Philharmonic Orchestra on August 3rd, 2017.

Founder & President of Woodstock Poland, Jurek Owsiak has the following thoughts on The Dead Daisies and their return to his Festival:

“Woodstock 1969 became an incredible spark which inspired all freedom thinkers of the world to face their biggest challenge yet – striving to achieve freedom, independence, truth, and try to build a true fraternity of people across the globe. For people in Poland, it became an inspiration to take a very important step on the road to regaining freedom and true independence. It was thanks to music, thanks to artists, who gave voice to our dreams which, 25 years ago, resulted in the creation of Polish solidarity and our Polish independence. We are so proud to say that it has been 23 years since we began to send the message of peace. It is especially important in such turbulent times as now. We are very grateful that thanks to artists like you, and amazing initiatives like The Dead Daisies and their songs about freedom, we are able to nurture and develop these everlasting ideals. The spirit of freedom permeates the globe, unstoppable like the wind, and it reminds us that despite the different skin colors or creeds we are all united by the ideals of Love, Friendship, and Music.”

In the middle of a World Tour supporting the release of their new Live Album – Live & Louder, Doug Aldrich said the following: “We are very, very, excited to be involved in the Woodstock Festival again this year. We will be performing with a sixty-piece orchestra!! It has been a big dream to do that! The Dead Daisies set list is going to be a one off special in the name of Peace & Freedom just for this show. Can’t wait!!”

Alongside the announcement, The Dead Daisies are releasing a new video today for ‘With You And I‘, which was fittingly filmed at the band’s inaugural performance at the Woodstock Festival last summer. It features imagery in line with values that the world seems to have sadly forgotten.

Singer John Corabi: “I think the lyrics to “With You And I” are especially relevant at the moment, you can’t turn the TV on and NOT see some sort of human decay anymore. We’re battling each other in so many ways, it’s disturbing. Be it political party differences, the struggle of black vs. white, religious differences, terrorism, famine, disease, pollution, climate change, etc. — nobody is working TOGETHER in any way to find answers to these issues, and communicate as adults!”

Rock & Roll is indeed alive and well!!!
