Lock your doors. Mind your grandmother. Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse are dragging something out of the swamp just in time for Halloween. The California-based (Louisiana & UK born) rock & roots band release their new single ‘The Rougaroux‘ (Roo-Ga-Roo) Friday, October 30th: a swampy, stomping blues-roots howler built on Robin Davey’s dirtiest guitar tone yet. The single arrives with a music video, continuing the band’s tradition of creating their own highly imaginative visuals through GROW VISION, with Greta Valenti handling concept and direction and Robin Davey the video art and edit. Their videos often catching the attention of Classic Rock’s Louder, which praised their “killer videos, masterminded in-house”.

So… What Is The Rougaroux?
Grow up anywhere in South Louisiana and you already know. The Rougaroux (from the French loup-garou, “werewolf”) is the Cajun werewolf, a man-wolf said to prowl the swamps, bayous and
cane fields after dark. For generations, Cajun grandmothers have used him to keep kids in line: misbehave, stay out past dark, and the Rougaroux is coming for you.
For frontwoman Greta Valenti, born and raised in Covington, Louisiana, with Cajun French and Italian roots, he isn’t a Halloween costume. He’s family lore.
“Every kid growing up in Louisiana hears about the Rougaroux,” says Greta. “He is the monster in the dark. Something that can infect you with his darkness. I think about him a lot – this shapeshifter that has lasted centuries of tales. I think he’s in all of us: the wild, hungry, untamed part of yourself. Some of it good, some of it bad, but he is there, nonetheless. So, I wrote a song in the spirit of so many songs I love from deep southern blues to Warren Zevon and my favorite band, Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs. It’s swampy, dark, and sexy; And it’s REALLY fun to perform live and we get everyone howling. So please enjoy!”
Who’s The Real Monster?
Like the best folk tales, ‘The Rougaroux‘ is a warning with a wink. It’s a Southern Gothic fever dream of gold-toothed blues preachers, demons crying “witch,” and powerful men who want to know everything about us. Following the counter-surveillance mischief of ‘Me-Ye-Ye-Yow!‘, it takes the same fire back to the band’s Louisiana roots and asks the question at the heart of the new album: when the people in charge keep telling you who the monsters are, who are the monsters really?
Musically, it’s Beaux Gris Gris at their most swampy and dangerous: a slow-burning groove driven by Robin Davey’s dirty, fuzz-soaked guitar and a howling solo, with a chorus built for a whole room to howl along to. Ah-oooh! The track features Greta Valenti (Beaux Gris Gris) on vocals, Robin Davey on guitar, Phil Wilson on drums and Charlie Kay on bass. Keys come from former Apocalypse member Sam Robertson and the newest member of The Apocalypse, Ali Petrie. It was written and produced by Greta Valenti & Robin Davey at GROW VISION Studios in Riverside, CA, and mixed by Chris Sheldon in London (Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro).
Speaking about the video, Greta adds: “We made the video ourselves through GROW VISION. I handled concept and direction, and Robin Davey took care of the video art and edit. And of course, we had to have a Rougaroux mask! Vic Pamlenyi at Hardly Human FX hand-crafted it for us. Vic also built Al the alligator for our ‘Gris Gris’ video, so they’re already a big part of the Beaux Gris Gris world.”
‘The Rougaroux‘ is the third single from the new album to be released in 2027 following ‘One Massive Hit‘ and ‘Me-Ye-Ye-Yow!‘.
