Album Review: MYSTERY – Out For Blood
Metalopolis Records – October 30th, 2026
Reviewer – David Brighouse
This is the 5th Album from the Australian Hard Rock band from Melbourne.
I fell into the same trap that my colleague Chris O’Connor did when reviewing their previous album ‘Mind Pollution‘ (review here) in 2024, that this is not the Canadian Prog Rock band of the same name that I was expecting. I’m sure this group from Oz must be losing out somewhere along the line because of this as a Google search for Mystery Band only gets you results for the long-standing Canadian outfit.
However, this band started young forming in 2010 and releasing their debut album in 2013, so they must be doing something right to still be going in 2026. They have shared bills across the world with the likes of Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Motley Crue and Megadeth to name but a few and would appear to be particularly popular in Japan. There have been a couple of line-up changes since Mind Pollution‘ and the loss of keyboard player Duje Ivić has led to a heavier sound this time round.
The title track opens the album with a strong beat and catchy riff and when the vocal comes it is reminiscent of Megadeth. What ‘Makes You Lie‘ is fast paced and has plenty of energy. ‘Needed From You‘ is one of the better tracks on offer with a nice opening riff, more melody and a good flow. ‘Change My Hand‘ and ‘Fly Free‘ slip back into standard heavy rock fare and are nothing special. ‘You’ll Find A Way‘ is a lighter track, more melodic with vocal harmonies that brought to mind Black Veil Brides. ‘In Your Arms Tonight‘ is an acceptable love song and ‘Living The Dream‘ continues in the same vein as an attempt at a big anthem, but both come across a bit like a bargain basement Bon Jovi.
‘My Own Eyes‘ picks up the pace again and is a much better hard-hitting song with a strong vocal, which makes me think they should be focusing on the heavier approach. The album finishes with a couple of covers – ‘Metal Health (Bang Your Head)’ (Quiet Riot) and ‘The World Needs Guts‘ (Alice Cooper), these are strong tracks competently played and perfectly demonstrate the bands influences, but also perhaps indicate that they are a little lacking in original ideas.
This is a perfectly listenable album of melody-tinged Heavy Rock but to my ears there is nothing that really makes it stand out from the crowd, I’m sure it will satisfy their existing fans but I don’t see it winning them too many new ones.
