Swedish hard rock queens THUNDERMOTHER are back with their Napalm Records studio debut, ‘Mothers of Thunder‘, out on February 5th, 2027. Their seventh album once again proves that the genre’s leading ladies can do everything men could—and maybe even better. Their rock’n’roll vibe comes in with dirty riffs and cheeky lines, the powerful delivery begging for energetic live shows. THUNDERMOTHER have previously proven to excel at just that: after opening for the legendary Scorpions and Judas Priest, playing at iconic festivals like Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, or Sweden Rock, and releasing their first live album, ‘Live’n’Alive‘ (review here), in 2026, the four-piece is ready for a new era. ‘Mothers of Thunder‘ is high-energy encouragement for women as well as thrilling, head-bopping fun for everyone else.
Along with the announcement, THUNDERMOTHER turn the genre on its head with the first single, ‘Bimbo Boost‘. Playing the epic riff to Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke On The Water’ backwards, the four-piece addresses the pressure on female artists to always look perfect when going on stage—an expectation that passes by male musicians.

“It’s damn hard being a woman. We have to do our makeup, straighten our hair, reverse aging, and always look our best. It’s exhausting. We wish we had a magic guitar booster pedal that instantly did all of that for us!

The somewhat self-titled opening title track, ‘Mothers of Thunder‘, is an ode to all women as well as an invitation to join THUNDERMOTHER in their ride. Calling mothers, daughters, and sisters as well as girlfriends and wives, the Swedish band is paving the way with this speedy track for those whom the future belongs to. ‘Restless‘ is another emancipatory manifesto: Singer Linnéa Vikström Egg teams up with her father, THERION’s Thomas Vikström, for a daddy-daughter argument turned song—a parent’s concerns on the one side, a child’s longing for freedom on the other, this song is as authentic as can be with real family delivering the vocals.
Following, ‘Time Is Never Wasted (When You’re Wasted All The Time)‘ gifts ‘Mothers of Thunder‘ an instant rock classic, best played at clubs, pubs, or on the road, whereas ‘Front Row Bangers‘ goes straight back to the aforementioned live shows. The singalong hymn goes out to their most dedicated fans and the love they pour into the musicians on stage: “We do the show, but you’re the stars” lovingly underlines the importance of their support.
Mid-tempo, blues-infused hard rocker ‘The Wet Blues‘, dealing with a certain lust and loneliness, continues THUNDERMOTHER’s track record of delivering highly contagious bangers with strong vocal performances, having ‘Stalker‘ kick extra hard afterwards. Featuring Wild West vibes, this scarily calm song deals with a harsh reality of being a woman—from the perpetrator’s perspective. ‘Bimbo Boost‘ has the quartet return to their genre’s roots, only to turn them on their head: Playing the epic riff to Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke On The Water’ backwards, THUNDERMOTHER address the pressure on female artists to always look perfect when going on stage—an expectation that passes by male musicians.
‘Get Up‘ is another self-empowerment hymn for women, whereas ‘Perfectly Miserable‘ is the slower song (not a ballad!) every good rock album needs. The question ‘Do I Need A Doctor‘ is easily answered with a song this infectious, and raw ‘Dirty Word‘ follows in its footsteps. Closing off the album, ‘Shake Your Money Maker‘ adds a certain feel-good summer feeling to ‘Mothers of Thunder‘.
