Review: Philip Sayce, Support Tom Moriarty
Rescue Rooms, May 20th, 2026

I wasn’t going to miss the oppotunity to see Philip Sayce and chums again. The last time was at Nottingham’s Metronome. This time it was back on familiar ground, the Rescue Rooms.
The evening’s support slot was filled by singer/songwriter Tom Moriarty, who treated us to an excellent acoustic performance. Accompanied by a 2nd guitar, which helped fill the sound out nicely, Tom performed songs that clearly resonated with today’s current climate, and he certainly went down well with the crowd.
SetList:
- Rise N Fall
- She’s Like A River
- On The Road Again
- Cool With You
- Enemy Inside
- Hard Times
Philip Sayce hit the stage with a full on rendition of ‘Out Of My Mind‘, one of my favorites of his, and didn’t let up. We were treated to fourteen songs (plus two during the encore) from across his career, abley supported by the same backing band as I’d seen previously, whose names sadley escape me (hopefully someone will enlighten me).
Mr Sayce is certainly in my top ten of favorite blues rock guitarists, delivering the right quantity of grit and sheer power, and the evening’s performance only reinforced my opinion.
Superb stuff indeed.
