Review: Jared James Nichols, Support Dan Byrne

Rescue Rooms, December 4th 2025

Unlike the poster shows, the evening’s support was rising NWOCR vocalist Dan Byrne, label mate of Jared James Nichols. It was a small audience in the Rescue Rooms, the crowd size was apparently something Jared wanted on this current UK tour.

With Dan battling with the dreaded lurgy, by his own admission he was struggling vocally. Against the odds Dan and his band played a full set, interupted by the venue’s own playlist at his 8.30pm cut off time, but continuing regardless with several more songs.

The crowd were very much his crutch, supporting and encouraging him, which  obviously helped him no end.

Setlist:

  1. Hard To Breathe
  2. Like Animals
  3. Hate Me
  4. Easier
  5. Sentimental
  6. Pulling Me Under
  7. Saviour
  8. Cherry & Leather
  9. Death Of Me

Whenever Jared James Nichols comes over to the UK, I always grab the chance to see him play. Without doubt one of the nicest blokes in the business, a real crowd pleaser, always up for a chat with the audience, and picking up the British lingo, with the crowd delighted at his use of the word ‘bellend’.

It was great to see Ryan Rice back behind the kit, having fallen ill during the band’s set at KK’s Steelmill a couple of days earlier. With Ryan on drums and bassist Brian Weaver, it’s one solid engine room. No flash, no throwing shapes, just a strong and steady rhythm section, allowing Jared to do what he does best, blues rock!

As expected, the trio delivered another excellent set, this is my kind of blues rock, the heavier end, plenty of ‘umph’.
