The Wisconsin-born, Los Angles based singer and guitarist, Jared James Nichols, releases his new album “Black Magic” on Friday 27th October via Listenable Records. All tracks on the new album were recorded at The Boneyard in Boston as well as Johnny Depp’s home studio in Los Angeles and produced and co-written by Tony Perry and Jared James Nichols. Over the past four years Jared has built up a solid  reputation as a stunning heavy edged blues rock act and stage beast, having shared stages with the likes of ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Zaak Wylde, Glenn Hughes, Walter Trout, Blue Oyster Cult, UFO and Saxon.

The Bad Flowers formed from the depths of the Black Country in 2014 comprised of lead vocalist and guitarist, Tom Leighton, whose signature riffs, fuzz emotive guitar and pure vocals have distinctive sound unlike anybody else. Bassist Dale Tonks provides a deep heavy groove and tasty bass runs that underpins Karl Selickis’ chest pumping drums and impeccable rhythmic feel. The band will release a new single “Secrets” in January to support the release of their debut album, “Starting Gun“, released on February 16th, 2018. The band just finished supporting The Picturebooks on their recent UK tour.

Wisconsin-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and guitarist, Jared James Nichols, returns with his new album ‘Black Magic‘ which is the follow up to 2015’s debut album ‘Old Glory & The Wild Revival‘.

Black Magic‘ features 10 tracks and will be released by Listenable Records on Friday 27th October.

All those tours were executed within a short period of time in support of his highly acclaimed debut album ‘Old Glory & The Wild Revival‘. Jared has quickly reached international status and has continued to deliver crashing propulsive blues tones with soulfully insane guitar solos.  It’s raw, raucous, and righteously real.

Last Chance is easily the hardest-hitting song I’ve ever wrote,” says Jared. “I completely let it all hang out and went wild. Even the guitar solo is off the wall, blazing fast, and absolutely crazy. I needed to set the bar high for the new record and come out with a bang.

Track listing:

  1. Last Chance (2:48)
  2. The Gun (3:22)
  3. Don’t Be Scared (3:27)
  4. Honey Forgive Me (2:22)
  5. Home (2:57)
  6. Got To Have You (2:50)
  7. End Of Time (2:46)
  8. Run (2:54)
  9. Keep Your Light on Mama (2:54)
  10. What Love (2:51)

Jared James Nichols will release the Highwayman EP via Listenable Records/ Swing House on CD and digital download in mid-September. The EP dovetails Jared’s special guest appearance on Glenn Hughes UK tour which starts October 17th at Southampton, Engine Rooms.

The EP features the lead single ‘We’re An American Band’, a scorching cover of Grand Funk Railroad’s 1973 single, a cover of Humble Pie’s “30 Days In The Hole”, and three new Jared James Nichols originals – ‘Old Glory’, ‘Fallin’ Down’ and ‘Gone’.   The EP is engineered, mixed and produced by Anthony Joseph Perry (son of Aerosmith’s Joe Perry), and was recorded at Swing House Studios in Los Angeles, with additional songs recorded in France at Indie Ear Studio by Mathieu Kabi.

The Highwayman EP is inspired by life on the road during a 70+ run of dates in Europe and UK earlier this year. Jared and his band wanted to release a few covers inspired by the tour along with some spontaneous original rockers to let his new fans understand where some of his influences come from as a contemporary American guitarist raised on classic rock from both sides of the Atlantic.  Jared will be special guest on Glenn Hughes’ UK tour which kicks off at in Southampton at the Engine Rooms on October 17th.

Glenn Hughes, nicknamed the ‘Voice of Rock’, has today unveiled an official photo of his new band that he has put together for his European and UK 2015 Solo tour.

The band’s UK leg of the European tour stars on October 17th at the Southampton Engine Rooms and ends at London’s Electric Ballroom on November 1st.   Special guest on the tour is Jared James Nichols who recently released his critically acclaimed debut album Old Glory & The Wild Revival.

The concerts will showcase highlights from Glenn’s career including Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Country Communion, California Breed, along with his solo material.

“I felt it was time for me to start touring with my solo band,” says Glenn, who is currently on tour in Brazil.  “I called my drummer Pontus Engborg , and guitar player Soren Andersen.  Soren had made a contractual commitment to do an autumn Tour in Scandinavia, so I had to find a replacement.

There was only one man on my mind… Doug Aldrich.”

“I’ve  known Doug from his time with Ronnie Dio , and of course Whitesnake. Doug played with me on a couple of Purple songs at a festival the night before Ronnie passed away. We had great chemistry , and talked about playing together again, when schedules permitted.

Continues Hughes, “ Doug is a welcome addition to my Band, and is a dear friend , both loving and nurturing , and is a rock phenomenon.  I’m beyond grateful to return to a Solo Band touring cycle, that will see me travel across many continents these next 12 months.See you down the front.”

Glenn Hughes is a true original.  No other rock musician has carved such a distinctive style blending the finest elements of hard rock, soul and funk.  That astonishing voice is Hughes’ calling card.  He’s known as a singer’s singer. Stevie Wonder once called Hughes his favorite white singer.  “I love my fans, and interact with them online, or at venues on my travels,” says Hughes. “There is no greater high than performing and to reach out to my fans.”

Jared James Nichols - Old Glory And The Wild Revival

Review: Jared James Nichols – Old Glory And The Wild Revival

Listenable Records (2015)

Reviewer: Dan Mann

Well it seems not a week goes by without another scorchin’ hot blues rock album hitting the music racks so to speak.

I’ll stick my neck out and say that blues, blues/rock is becoming almost trendy with more and more artists coming though for recognition by critics and fans alike.

Sticking my neck out even further, I’ll say that Mr. Nichols is by no means an ‘also ran’. Far from it, as you’ll discover, the opening track ‘Playin’ For Keeps‘ (a live version of which closes the album) instantly rewards you with just the right mixture of blues & rock, full of gritty, soaring guitar, solid thumping of the skins and a tight bass line. The guitar break around 3/4 of the way through remind me of Virgil & the Accelerators, excellent stuff.

Second track on the album, ‘Crazy‘, without doubt has in the guitar playing large hints of early ZZ Top, think ‘El Loco’ era but with a touch of nitrous oxide! Things slow down a little with ‘Let You Go‘, a simple, straightforward what I’d call modern blues ballad. ‘Can You Feel It‘ is more the blues end of the album, think Oli Brown / Laurence Jones. The same could be said about ‘Now Or Never‘ It’s a style I’m personally a fan of as it’s brought things up to date without losing the roots of this style of music.

When ‘Haywire‘ first starts it could almost be mistaken initially as a Queen song with a John Deacon style bass line, certainly an enjoyable ‘foot stomper’. ‘All Your Pain‘ is another of what I’d call a ballad. I don’t mean it’s one of those saccharine sweet  songs that ends up on forecourt compilation albums, but a song that meanders in a way that makes you want to just sit back and let the music take you along for the ride. However you are then dragged back onto your feet with ‘Sometimes‘ as the beat speeds back up with more wailing guitars and the solid bass of Erik Sandin & drumming of Dennis Holm. This continues with ‘Blackfoot‘ whose roots are firmly in those wonderful rock and blues rock releases of the 70’s. There’s no mistaking the Southern groove in the intro to ‘Take My Hand‘ with slide guitar and picking.  This track is dripping with those rocking chair on the porch vibes, wonderful stuff. You might as well pour yourself another bourbon as Jared does not move from that chair for ‘Come In My Kitchen

And finally the album rounds off with two live tracks. The afore mentioned live version of ‘Playin’ For Keeps‘ & ‘You Won’t Last‘, which was recorded at the famous/infamous Viper Rooms.

Without a doubt Jared is someone who perfectly captures the current wave of blues rock. Highly recommended.
