Review: Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse – Hot Nostalgia Radio Live
Grow Vision (November 7th, 2025)
Reviewer – David Brighouse
Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse are a California based roots rock (blending Blues Rock Americana, Country, and Soul) band created and led by Louisiana-born-and-raised musician Greta Valenti and British Blues Hall of Fame Inductee, Robin Davey.
Recorded at The Corn Exchange in Devizes, ‘Hot Nostalgia Radio Live‘ is a 24-track, 2-hour tour de force featuring the band’s explosive performance and unforgettable guest appearances by Jon Amor, Ruzz Evans, original Apocalypse member Emma Jonson, and more. The release will be available in two collector’s formats: a Triple Vinyl Set, or as a Double CD + Blu-Ray Concert Film package (featuring additional songs not included on the album).
As a faithful representation of their electric live performances the album features a full selection from their musical output to date with 11 of the 14 songs from the ‘Hot Nostalgia Radio‘ album, 6 from ‘Good Times End Times‘ and 6 from ‘Love & Murder‘, plus a stripped-down version of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘I’m On Fire‘.
The performance flows seamlessly from swinging blues to soulful ballads, an acoustic section and everything in between, with equal focus on Greta’s powerful vocals and Robin‘s brilliant guitar playing, wonderfully supported by the other members of the band, guests and frequently supplemented by the audience singing along.
This album is a useful jumping in point for anyone who hasn’t listened to the band up to now, or as a reminder of a good night out for those of us who have seen the band live and comes highly recommended, especially the Blu-ray Concert Film which is over 2 hours long.
