Review: Laurence Jones, Support Tom Killner – The Drill, Lincoln April 5th 2025

Review: Laurence Jones, Support Tom Killner

The Drill (April 5th 2025)

Reviewer / Photographer – Dan Mann

It was a welcome return to The Drill in Lincoln, a venue which is fast becoming one of my favorite venues.

The ‘Rockin’ The Grassroots Tour‘ is part of the Music Venue Trust’s continued support for grassroots venues, and a fine job they’re doing, deserving our support in return.

Support was from the excellent Tom Killner, this time playing a solo acoustic set. Now, when it comes to acoustic sets, for me it’s a love / hate thing. Thankfully Tom‘s performance was very much a love thing!

It was my first time watching Tom play acoustic, I’m used to seeing him with his band, and he delivered a polished, yet relaxed set comprising of seven songs. Very enjoyable indeed.

Ride With Me

It’s been almost a year since I last saw / photographed Laurence Jones at HRH Blues, this performance was a little different as most people were seated at large, round tables. I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of all seated gigs, but still, it didn’t reduce my enjoyment of Laurence‘s set.

I was told earlier in the evening that Laurence was feeling under the weather, but you certainly couldn’t tell, with Laurence looking relaxed, and enjoying himself. When it comes to ‘the blues’, I’m a tad fussy about what I do and don’t like in the genre. Laurence and his band add just enough bite and attitude, just the way I like it!

With eleven songs, including the encore, we weren’t short changed, yet the set seemed to fly by, always a strong indication that you’ve had a good night.

Hopefully it won’t be as long until I see Laurence Jones & Co again.

With six dates still left on the tour, you’ve still got the opportunity to see a great night’s entertainment. Tour info can be found – here
