Review: H.E.A.T, Art Nation, Chez Kane
Rescue Rooms, Nottingham (January 29th, 2025)
Reviewer / Photographer: Dan Mann
With a three band bill there was a decent crowd wedged into Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms to watch some Scandi rock, with a side order of British!
First to take to the stage was Chez Kane and her band. I’ve been pondering whilst photo editing what to say about this performance. In fact I’ve pondered rather a lot, because if I’m going to be totally honest, I can’t really remember much about it apart from Chez wiggling her arse at the crowd. I’m sure the magority of the night’s crowd will totally disagree with me, which is fine. If they enjoyed it then Chez & Co have done their job. I just found it very samey, in fact the only song I can remember was ‘Rocket On The Radio‘ due to it being very similar to Blue Tears‘ ‘Rockin’ With The Radio‘.

Next up Scandi rockers Art Nation, a band I’d not had chance to see live before. I know their music pretty well, their debut the standout album for me, and I was more than a tad interested to how their polished studio sound would transfer to the stage.
There was some muttering amonst us togs about the choice of lighting during the first song, consisting entirely of blue & red! But the band, resplendant in some natty trenchcoats delivered a decent set, one that was alas far too short, only six songs! At least they finished on my favorite of their songs ‘Need You To Understand‘.

And so to the main course, that force of nature from Sweden, the one and only H.E.A.T! I can’t remember how many times I’ve seen this band play, be it with different line-ups of singer & guitarists, from small clubs to festivals & Monsters Of Rock Cruise. There has always been one constant. Regardless of venue size or band members, the performance has always been high octane, thoroughly entertaining and just what the doctor ordered!
And of course no matter the energy, without the catalogue of music to dip into, things will never quite manage to reach the peaks. I’ve been a fan from the very first play though of their debut album back in 2008. I’ve got to repeat that last bit to myself, is it really some seventeen years since they took the melodic hard rock world by storm? H.E.A.T have such an impressive body of work to take from.
They opened their set with their brand new single ‘Disaster‘, off their soon to be released new album ‘Welcome To The Future’ (released April 25th on earMUSIC). In fact we were treated to another song off the new album, ‘Bad Time For Love’, both reasuring us, not that it’s needed, that the new album will be another blinder!
With a setlist spanning the band’s career, there was certainly something for everyone, and their performance once again reinforced the fact that they’re one of THE best live bands out there.
Thankfully I’m not going to have to wait too long to see them again, as they’ve been added to the already impressive Maid Of Stone Festival in July.
