Review: Silent Tiger – Twist Of Fate

Prepare yourself for a wonderful musical journey with Silent Tiger, the melodic rock heroes now unleashing their sophomore masterpiece, ‘Twist Of Fate’. This album is a testament to the band’s evolution and showcases a powerful melodic sound that in my opinion, will captivate your senses from start to finish. Now signed to the excellent Pride & Joy Music label, the band have their collective sights on hitting ever increasing vistas. If you are a fan of the very best of AOR/Melodic Rock, then this album is for you.

Led by the dynamic vocals of David Cagle, the band’s main nucleus, consisting of Jean Funes on guitars and Joel Mejía on drums, continues to forge ahead with a renewed energy that is truly infectious. The powerful mix by Mats Ericsson (Degreed) elevates the sonic experience, creating a tapestry of sound that is both intricate and powerful. Adding to the atmospheric allure are the keyboards of Mikael Blanc (Degreed), while the guest appearance of bassist Andreas Passmark (Royal Hunt, W.E.T.) adds an extra layer of depth to the musical landscape.

‘Twist Of Fate’ is a collection of musical gems that will resonate with fans of classic melodic rock acts – all the while imbuing the music with their own passionate enthusiasm and flair. Their sound is both polished yet powerful, and the band positively radiates maturity and rightfully assured confidence. There is an elegance to what they do, David Cagle’s voice is effortlessly brilliant, while the guitarwork of Jean Funes is nothing short of inspired throughout.

Originally formed in 2018, with a vision to create melodic hard rock influenced by legends such as Def Leppard, Van Halen, Europe, Bon Jovi, Ratt, Dokken, and Scorpions, Silent Tiger has truly hit their stride with ‘Twist Of Fate’. The modern touch infused into their classic influences results in a sound that is both nostalgic yet fresh, that should definitely appeal to a wide audience of rock enthusiasts. I think it was the immortal Desmond Child who once wisely said “Don’t bore us, get to the chorus!”, and Silent Tiger has taken that advice, and write hooks and choruses to die for!

The title track is a wonderfully uplifting melodic anthem, I guarantee it will insinuate itself into your subconscious – it’s irresistible. ‘Last Of The True Believers’ is a wonderfully potent slice of melodic heaven, it’s another modern classic in the making. Perhaps my favourite track is the moody ‘Place Where I Belong’, a sumptuous number with a chorus to die for, it’s definitely one of my favourite songs of 2023. I would also direct your attention to the glorious ‘Remember Who You Are’, a lovely slice of AOR perfection.

‘Twist Of Fate’ is not just an ordinary album; it’s a sonic adventure that will definitely leave you craving more. From the powerful vocals to the expertly crafted instrumentation, every element of this album contributes to its undeniable appeal. Silent Tiger has not only lived up to expectations but has exceeded them, solidifying their place as serious Melodic Rock contenders.
