When you see the name David Readman (Pink Cream 69, Voodoo Circle) on lead vocals you should always stand up and take notice, so with this new project Room Experience it is no different. The project was founded by Gianluca Firmo ( Keyboards, Backing Vocals – the band name actually coming from the many hours he spent writing songs in his bedroom), the rest of the band is made up of members of band Charming Grace (most of whom are involved in other well known projects such as Lionville), and there are also a number of guest performances from the likes of Alessandro Del Vecchio, Ivan Gonzalez (Secret, Suite 91) and Sven Larsson (Street Talk, Fergie Frederiksen, Lionville).
Often it is difficult to focus on what else is going on with songs when you have such a wonderful vocalist at the helm, but this is certainly a very classy album, filled with songs that have been given a lot of attention from the writing process right through to the finished polished product.
This debut album contains eleven melodic rock standards with the stand outs being ‘Tomorrow Came‘ which is a really nice track, somewhere approaching a ballad, but it just sounds great with some really good backing vocals lifting it even further, there’s no screaming guitar solos here, but there is some excellent saxophone that fits perfectly into the flow of not only the song but the album too. Other stand out tracks here are ‘Rainbow In The Rain‘, the ballad ‘The Only Truth‘ and the excellent ‘Run To You‘ which is a real stand out track and top quality AOR. It’s not a perfect album by any means, but there is a lot of passion in here, that’s very obvious from the start, it’s definitely in my opinion aimed at a European audience, but that’s not a bad thing either, David’s vocals are powerful and moving throughout and I think the more time you spend with the album the more positives pop to mind, in a modern hectic world that can be lost a little these days, spend some time, sit down and revisit something and go “hey, I didn’t notice that section before, it’s excellent”.
On the final track of the album Gianluca takes over lead vocal and keyboard duties, and although it gives the song a completely different vibe from the rest of the album, it’s still bloody good, and there are plenty of layers to peel back on this one. Make sure you don’t just dismiss this album because you don’t know the bands name, this is a fine album, if the guys can continue to produce this sort of quality and Mr. Readman stays at the helm on vocals I will eagerly away the follow up, Gianluca apparently has one hundred plus songs written, so hopefully it will be a rapid process. Congratulations to all involved here, well written, well played and well produced Room Experience are on the radar.
