Review: Beth Hart – You Still Got Me (Digital Deluxe Edition)

This is the special digital deluxe version of the acclaimed 2024 album ‘You Still Got Me‘ by Grammy-nominated American singer-songwriter Beth Hart featuring six additional tracks previously only available on the limited-edition box set of the album.

Four of the tracks are extended versions of songs that are on the original, plus two new songs, ‘Mean Ole Man Of Mine’ and ‘Stuff For You’.

I’m going to skip over the original album as Peter Scallan did an excellent job of reviewing that on this site back in 2024 (so please just refer to that review if you are not familiar with the original) and just focus on the extra tracks you get with this Deluxe edition.

‘Saviour With A Razor‘ features more of Slash’s guitar playing at the beginning of the track and an elongated middle break adding about 45 seconds to the original. ‘Wonderful World‘ is an alternative more stripped-back version with extra feeling to Beth’s vocal delivery. ‘Mean Ole Man Of Mine‘ which has been released as a single, tells the story of a girl drawn to a wild, larger-than-life man, someone rough, unpredictable and unapologetically bold, is a piano led laid back soulful song which would go down well in a smoky Jazz club and features some wonderfully moody saxophone playing. ‘Wanna Be Big Bad Johnny Cash‘ is a variation with a distinctly different second half to the original. ‘Don’t Call The Police‘ is certainly an extended version with a prolonged intro and stretched out outro. ‘Stuff For You‘ has a jazzy groove and shows Beth at her most alluring, playful and displaying her unmistakeable attitude.

Usually, my view is that these extended editions are just for the dedicated fans and completists who have to have every song by their favoured performer, but Beth Hart is such an exceptional artist and the original was such a great release that this version is a no-brainer if you don’t have the original, and a must-get if you do.
