Review: The Milk Men – The Milky Way
Self Release – May 16th, 2026
Reviewer – David Brighouse
This is the 7th Album from the UK Blues Award multi-nominated band. It’s their first studio album since 2024 and features 11 new original songs. The album cover was designed by legendary illustrator Mark Wilkinson.
The album opens with lead single ‘Waiting For Some Rock’n’Roll‘ a fun song with a catchy chorus, which has an accompanying video directed by Ben Mole and depicts the Band taking rock’n’roll out into the galaxy to some enthusiastic aliens. ‘Son Of A Gun’ starts with a Motownesque bass line and features some fine guitar playing from Adam Norsworthy and he contributes a dirty riff to kick-off next track ‘Down In The Hole‘ which has much more of a rock groove to it. In contrast ‘Loving You Baby‘ is a catchy acoustic pop song with a summery vibe.
‘Give It Up‘ is another slick rocker, an ideal Friday night song – yes “Give It Up for the Weekend”. ‘Little Devil‘ is a pop-rock which is lyrically strong, catchy and reminds me of Del Amitri. ‘Another You‘ is a heartfelt ballad with Jamie finding an extra bit of emotion and feel in his performance. With ‘Jimmy The Weasel‘ it’s back to up-tempo R’n’B and a character led tale of the local wrong ‘un. ‘Nothing On You‘ is my stand out track on the album, an interesting and intriguing piece of blues rock. Harmonica adds another dimension to the lively R’n’B of ‘I’ve Been Losing You‘ a song which is sure to become a live favourite and get everyone up and dancing. Last track ‘Evergreen‘ which although a ballad, makes excellent use of Adam’s guitar playing and the Hammond Organ of guest Greg Coulson to build into an epic finale.
Overall, as good as the songs are, baring a couple of tracks like the excellent ‘Nothing On You’, I find the album a bit lightweight in its production with an almost retro 60’s feel. Adam Norsworth has described this album as looser than their previous offerings, but I feel for the most part the sound is lacking a bit of Oomph, but please do give it a listen and judge for yourself.
