I was really looking forward to catching Canadian rockers The Commoners again. Saw/ photographed them earlier in the year when they rocked the stage at Call OF The Wild Festival.
But before their appearence, we had support band Candar., an alt rock two piece outfit hailing from London, with Ella Crossland on vocal duties and Finn McAuley on drums. I’d not heard of them before, alt isn’t something I activly follow or indeed listen too. However, the duo put in a solid performance, one which engaged with the crowd.
Candor.
And so onto the main course. The Commoners have certainly found a place in the hearts of British fans, making regular trips over the pond from Canada, an undertaking that let’s face it, is not without a very large outlay, so I’m certainly very greatful for their efforts.
The night’s set was unfortunately cut short, with the band performing just over an hour. We were to discover later that it was due to singer Chris Medhurst having a lung infection!
I have to say, it wasn’t evident during their set. During that hour we were treated to a superb slab of the band’s recipe of blues rock, with that extra little sprinkle of soul mixed in.
Hopefully it’s a speedy recovery for Chris, and the band arn’t too disappointed in having to cancel the rest of the tour. Not an easy decision, but health obviously comes first, and a singer having to perform with below capacity lungs is not wise.
Hopefully the guys will be popping back over to Blighty next year. I do konw, they’ll be greated with open arms!
