Review: Greyfox Conspiracy – Preacherman

Self Release (December 12th, 2025)

Hailing from South Wales, Greyfox Conspiracy are on the cusp of releasing their independent debut album.  These are five seasoned musicians who decided to bring their talents together with lead vocalist Greyfox Growl, formerly of Sons of Liberty.  What they have created is a heavy, blues-drenched scorcher of an album!

Blues rock is not one of my favorite rock genres, but when you throw in some drop D tuning and add some gruff, burly vocals…that hits the sweet spot.  This is a “theme” album, with the lyrics about characters who are outlaws, loners, and rebels.  The title track, ‘Branded Man’, ‘Crazy Horse’, ‘Freight Train’ and ‘Renegade’ all involve their travels and tales.

The title track opens and invokes memories of Dokken’s ‘It’s Not Love’ but soon unfolds into a Dokken song by way of Cinderella vibe. Mid-tempo, heavy, thick, and full of grit. It’s got a dark ambiance emphasized by some rough and tumble vocals from Greyfox.

Track 2’s ‘Twist of Fate’ drops the euro style guitar work and goes for an angry, bluesy, AC/DC vibe. Like most of the tracks here, Greyfox’s seething and powerful delivery sells the song. A great song to blast while driving fast.

You get a variety of different tempos on the album. My favorites were the ones that were a bit faster and hit a bit harder. ‘Lord Have Mercy’ has a great heavy, thick groove. Drummer Mikey J. hits the drums like it’s the last set he’ll ever play. Nothing intricate, just some solid thunder.  ‘Renegade’ also had a similar tempo and a fantastic chorus. It’s a solid riff over a chorus that does not have a lot of words, but there’s something about Greyfox growling (no pun intended) the words “Hell Yeah!” that just fires up the song, making it a standout.

While all the songs I listed above are terrific, my favorite track stands head and shoulders above them. I don’t make yearly Top 10 lists, but if I did, ‘Freight Train’ would certainly make the cut.  With all due respect to Ozzy’s ‘Crazy Train’, if a train could have a soundtrack, it would be this song. The riffs laid down by guitarists Zino and Dai make the instruments sound like a train flying down the tracks, even including some type of technique (maybe a foot pedal?) that makes a train horn-type sound. It must be heard to be believed and should be sought out by everyone reading this. Once again, another phenomenal vocal delivery by Greyfox.

No negative critiques for this album, but a concern.  Greyfox Growl is the type of singer who sounds like he gargles whiskey before stepping up to the mic. He’s got a great lower register, and his enunciations are pointed and clear. At times, he will aim for a higher register that is outside of his range. This makes him sound like he’s struggling. It will be difficult to pull off live and I fear he will blow out his vocal cords reaching for highs that are, frankly, not needed.

This is a hard driving, hard drinking man’s band! It makes you want to strap on a leather jacket, jump on a Harley, and hit the road with not a care in the world. Take a look at that album cover above and ask yourself…”How is this image not on a beer label”? How is it that the world has gone this long without making Greyfox Growl a household name? That needs to be corrected immediately. Folks, check out this album and support this band. Some of the best heavy, bluesy southern rock I’ve heard in a long time.
