Bywater Call Release ‘Sunshine’ Live Album & Live Single ‘Sign of Peace’

On Friday, August 22nd, Canadian Roots, Rock, and Soul band Bywater Call will release their highly anticipated live album ‘Sunshine‘. The album is available on CD and vinyl here and on all major streaming platforms here.

On the same day, the band release the focus track ‘Sign of Peace (Live)‘.

‘Sunshine‘ is Bywater Call’s first live album. It features a mix of newly released music, including the cover of the Stephen Stills classic ‘Love The One You’re With‘ and the funky new original title-track ‘Sunshine‘ (previously released as a single in May 2025), plus fan favourites ‘As If‘, ‘Sign of Peace‘, and ‘Everybody Knows‘ from 2024’s ‘Shepherd‘ album (review here), and ‘Bring Me Down‘ taken from their 2019 eponymous debut album.

The highly anticipated live album is an epic, energetic revelation for the uninitiated, and a perfect snapshot as to why Bywater Call win new fans across the globe.

“It’s hard to explain what we do live to those who haven’t been there” says lead singer Meghan Parnell. “There is an energy within the band and between us and the audience that kind of carries you away.”

Continues Meghan, “It’s never a straight playdown of the studio recordings, but instead it’s an expansion and experimentation for those ideas. There are moments in the show that will be completely different every night, even if the set list is the same. I think we’ve really managed to capture the essence of this on ‘Sunshine‘.”

Songs feature extended jams, fiery solos, and haunting introductions from shows in Toronto, Canada, Woodstock, New York, USA and Newbury, UK.

The live performances feature the extraordinary talents of Dave Barnes (guitar, slide), Mike Meusel (bass), Bruce McCarthy (drums), John Kervin (keyboards), Julian Nalli (sax), and Stephen Dyte (trumpet).

Together, the band command the innate ability to improvise, innovate and play off each other, while highlighting the gritty, dynamic, and emotive vocals of lead singer Meghan Parnell. It is a true reflection of the heart and sweat poured out on stage every night. The live album was recorded and mixed by drummer Bruce McCarthy and mastered by Kristian Montano (Montano Mastering).

“Nothing approaches the absolute joy of watching this band from the crowded comfort of a noisy club. Meghan is without question up there with the all-time great vocalists!
One hell of a performance.” –
R’N’R Magazine

“A musical experience that will stay with you forever. With expert craftsmanship, stylistic versatility, and an emotionality that gets under your skin. One of the strongest live bands around.” – JazzandRock.com

“You may not know what you’ll hear on any given night, but you are guaranteed to have more than a memorable experience and to be dazzled by some stellar musicianship.”  – Great Dark Wonder

About Bywater Call

Meghan Parnell (vocals) and Dave Barnes (guitar) are the founding members of Bywater Call, a powerhouse seven-piece Southern soul, roots rock band from Toronto, Canada. The band also features Bruce McCarthy (drums), Mike Meusel (bass), John Kervin (keyboards), Stephen Dyte (trumpet), and Julian Nalli (tenor sax).

Bywater Call has received multiple Independent Blues and Maple Blues Award nominations including Entertainer, Electric Act and Best Female Vocalist for the 2024 Awards Season. They have toured extensively in Europe where shows have been praised by Dutch, German, and UK media, with references to Meghan as one of the best female voices in blues and roots today.

In August 2023, the band participated in Joe Bonamassa’s third Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea Mediterranean Cruise alongside headliners Blackberry Smoke and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram.  They were invited to perform at the All-Star Jam on the mainstage with Bonamassa himself. Guitarist Dave Barnes was also asked to join legendary blues artist Jimmy Vivino (Conan O’Brien’s Basic Cable Band) on stage.

Bywater Call have commanded festival stages in Canada and around the world, often referred to as the “find of the fest”. In May of 2023, they opened for Canadian Award-winning band Whitehorse at the inaugural Smokestack Music Festival in Hamilton, Ontario. In July, Meghan joined renowned pedal-steel guitarist Robert Randolph on stage at his request, at the Briggs Farm Festival in Nescopeck, PA.

On October 24, 2023, Bywater performed a live stream performance on the German TV show and festival Rockpalast.

In 2023, the band played a total of 96 shows in 10 countries, 89 Cities, 19 US States and 3 Canadian Provinces.  This is not including a month-long duo tour in Europe and the UK where Meghan and Dave opened for Southern California rockers Robert Jon & The Wreck, who have recently partnered with Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records.
