Review: The Karma Effect, Support Silveroller
Yardbirds (April 3rd 2025)
Reviewer / Photographer – Paul Saripo
Thursday evening with the sunset behind me, above the Humber Bridge I made my way to Yardbirds, Grimsby to see The Karma Effect supported by Silveroller.
Doors opened 7pm, Silveroller came on just after 8.15pm and engulfed the venue with a golden 70s organ rock sound of ‘Black Crow‘, which incidentally is also the opening track of their debut EP ‘At Dawn‘.
As the set progressed through eight songs of varying tempo, the energy to immerse the audience into each song was maintained, the newest band member Kenny Tashjy was rock solid and blended well, perhaps showcasing a notable Styal on ‘Nobody’s Business‘.
‘Trouble Follows Me‘, had a memorable bluesy grove, relaxed flowing bass and Jonnie Hodson pulling out his Harmonica to great effect.
The band closed their set with ‘Hold‘, a lively outro to conclude a very enjoyable set.
Silveroller are certainly a band to see live and one I will be seeing again whist they are touring.

Stage entry was 9:16 which was about a 15minute changeover with lively applause as the band opened with ‘Livin’ It Up‘.
Everyone took the notable 3 paces forward to get closer. With quite a few people dancing and singing along to the songs, only 2 songs in and the place was alive with the aptly named ‘All Night Long‘.
I had last seen The Karma Effect play live in 2023, whilst I felt they was good then, they didn’t quite hold the same interest with me at that time as they do now.
They are still tight, fluid, and solid musicians together but now seem to be having more fun whilst performing, making more solid connections with the fans.
Its early on at the beginning of the tour, just the second show and I suspect this will gain momentum and evolve over the next few shows and it will be well worth seeing them again further into the tour.
The band have now signed with Earache Records and following on from the second album ‘Promised Land‘, will be releasing a reworked, and remastered copy of their 2022 self titled debut album on April 18th, which is lined up to be a definite success.
