Review: Magnum – Live At KK’s Steel Mill

Steamhammer / SPV (January 10th, 2025)

Reviewer: David Mark Pearce

Happy New Year rock fans. I start this years reviews off with this new and sadly final live album from English Symphonic Rock Legends Magnum.

This serves very much as a tribute to the late wonderful guitarist, musician and songwriter Tony Clarkin, who as you’ll all know, sadly passed away in January 2024.

Flipping heck, has it been that long already? Unfortunately yes. Tony passed on January 7th and this is due to be released this year on January 10th so that’s a pretty close and fitting anniversary to release this album on.

Recorded on December 10th, 2022, this also marked the final show on their European tour. Their final album ‘Here Comes The Rain’ which I also reviewed for Rockposer Dot Com! (review here) and this also featured the bonus DVD of the show, and thankfully to high demand, it’s now got its own release on CD, Digital download & Vinyl.

From beginning to end this is a fantastic collection of new and old songs, ranging from ‘Kingdom of Madness‘ right through and including cracking songs such as ‘Vigilante‘, ‘Old England Eyes‘, ‘Lost On The Road To Eternity‘, ‘On A Storytellers Night‘ and ‘Sacred Hour‘ to name but a few.

The audience singing along with Bob Catley on ‘Storytellers’ will surely bring a tear to anyone’s eyes as they sit back or jump around to this marvellous album where they don’t put a foot wrong!

A wonderful tribute to Tony. What else is there to say!?

This one’s for you sir!

RIP Tony Clarkin
