Review: Dusk Brothers / When Rivers Meet

Okay, I’ll hold my hand up and confess that I knew nothing about the Dusk Brothers before the gig. I have since given myself a slap on the wrist. Part Seasick Steve, part southern rock with an array of instruments saved from the scrap heap, the Dusk Brothers were an absolute delight to watch. They had the crowd entertained to the max from the off, with the perfect mix of great music and chat. When they’re next up in my neck of the woods I will certainly make sure I don’t miss them!

Headline act When Rivers Meet are a band I’ve somehow consistently managed to miss, until now that is. Aaron & Grace Bond have garnered a loyal fanbase and after seeing this performance I can see why. I’m going to be honest and say that I actually prefer their material live, the songs just seem fuller, more rounded, if that makes any sense at all.

The Rescue Rooms was certainly busy, (for both bands) with some actual, proper front lighting, to the delight of us togs, no doubt it was due to the filming that was taking place during the WRM set. As with the Dusk Brothers, I will hopefully catch When Rivers Meet again, sooner rather than later.
