Review – Love Live Festival 2024

Blackpool Winter Gardens (February 9th, 10th & 11th 2024)

This was the inaugural Love Live Festival at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, with a good mix of bands of various genres on the line-up. Let me just say from the start, hats off to any promotor who put’s themselves through the stress, aggravation and damn hard work to put on, not just a festival, but any gig, especially in this current climate!

If I’m going to mention anything negative, it was the smallish crowd, but with other music events on over the weekend elsewhere as well as it being the first one staged at the Winter Gardens (and what a great venue it was). However, as Steve from Solid Entertainments rightly pointed out, the crowd was made up of hardcore music fans, and they made all of the bands fell very welcome.

Whilst I’d seen a lot of the bands and artists on the line-up, there were a few I’d either not had the chance to see, or I wasn’t familiar with. One thing I love about festivals like this is discovering new music, and my camera bag soon had some CD’s and t-shirts I purchased crammed in.

Sadly a few bands that were on the original line-up had to pull out due to illness, and three of those I really wanted to see again. However, the replacements for Saturday openers The Karma Effect, Sheffield band The Heavy Souls, certainly delivered the goods at such short notice (one to watch).

Not every band on a festival bill is going to be my thing as was the case at Love Live, but that in no way reduced my enjoyment as each band put on a polished performance. Plus of course festivals & gigs aren’t just about the music, they’re also a chance to spend time with friends and a chance to make new ones.

Love Live Festival will be back in Blackpool in 2025 & 2026, and I have no hesitation in recommending you add it to your gig diary, it’s already in mine. Roll on next year!
