The Rescue Rooms (October 10th 2023)

It was an early kick off on Tuesday evening due to it being a three band bill and a 10pm venue curfew because of some student event afterwards.

First to bat were Brit rockers Doomsday Outlaw, a band I’ve seen a couple of times before and who I’ve enjoyed seeing. To a sadly sparce crowd, certainly due mainly to the 6pm start, the band launched into their set as though the venue was packed! The crowd thankfully didn’t stand there passively, but gave the band their vocal support, which was well founded after a far too short, but entertaining set.

Second band of the evening were a band I’ve been wanting to see live for several years. Dutch trio DeWolff delivered an astonishing set, far surpassing their albums, which is quite a feat! Whilst again it was a shortened set, it certainly didn’t feel like it. With an increased crowd, who were, by the look on their faces, as thrilled with the band’s performance as I was. This is a band you MUST see live if you get the chance.

And so to the headline act. I’ve seen Jared James Nichols several times over the last few years, from opening Ramblin’ Man to the disappointingly small pool stage on Monsters Of Rock Cruise, at Rock City and also at the Rescue Rooms. Each time he has delivered a whirlwind performance, full of power and an almost frenzied attack of guitar wizardry. The UK has certainly taken him to their heart, something the crowd actively displays. Like I said about DeWolff, Jared’s live performance takes his album releases to new heights, he’s a musician that is so much more when seen on stage.

With only a handful of dates remaining on this tour, grab the chance to see all three bands. Trust me, they all add up to a fantastic evening’s entertainment!
