UK rock fans will be familiar with Deggy as bassist of southern dirty rockers, Gorilla Riot, but he is fast being recognised as a prolific pop icon artist, specialising in the use of spray paints and intricate stencils.
Deggy is now staging his first ever dedicated Art Exhibition in his home town of Glossop and it all hangs off a very special date… his birthday 19th May.
Deggy explained, “I’ve been exploring my artistic passion for a few years now. It started during my college days but really accelerated during the lockdowns and most of my work has been inspired by people that inspired me, cultural icons from my youth. However, I share a birthday with some quite famous folk too, so its an ideal way to tie it all together for my first ever art exhibition. I’ve called it The Class of May 19th.”
Deggy could have easily staged his debut art show in nearby Manchester, having received plenty of interest but when the idea of the birthday tie-in evolved it seemed natural to also base it in his hometown of Glossop.
Deggy went on, “I chose Harvey Leonard’s as it’s a great space that primarily deals in wines & spirits but has a great cross-over feel. Its hard having Manchester right beside us as everything heads there, so it was definitely part of my thinking to bring something cool to Glossop.”
The exhibition will feature never seen before pieces around the theme of May 19th and a collection of the work Deggy is already being recognised for.
His work recently shot to fame following the passing of punk-fashion icon, Vivienne Westwood, as Deggy had only recently completed a large wall mural in her honour as Dame Vivienne was born nearby and went to school in Glossop.

Aside from his musical role in Gorilla Riot, Deggy has now turned artist full time, selling limited edition prints and accepting one-off commissions.
Admission to the exhibition is free of charge but there is a premium ticket available to purchase for early access, including drink and raffle entry to win a signed print. https://www.wegottickets.com/event/576901 Please note, the venue is 18+
