Joining the three headlining powerhouses of Gorilla Riot, Piston & Jack J Hutchinson we are thrilled to announce the next batch of bands playing this year’s Outlaw Rock N’ Roll Weekend (Fri 7th / Sat 8th / Sun 9th May) at The Globe in Glossop.

Coming all the way from Newport Wales we are delighted to have Everyday Heroes making their debut at the Outlaw Rock N’ Roll Weekend! Having already shared the stage with the likes of Thunder, The Darkness & The Answer the future looks bright for the Valley Boys!

Arriving on the UK Rock scene in July 2017 Building Giants wasted no time in stirring up a fuss and getting their name known by many as far and wide. In the few years, they have been on the road they have played Kendal Calling, Camden Rocks & Highest Point Festival along with selling venues out across the country with their ‘Talk Of The Town’ Tour at the back end of 2019.

Hailing from Gravesend in Kent Gallows Circus play dirty blues hearted Rock N Roll taking influence from the likes of Led Zeppelin & Free from the 1970s, whilst giving a well-earned nod to the modern days Rival Sons and The Temperance Movement. Catchy guitar riffs and hooky vocal melodies make sure these guys won’t be forgotten on any bill.

With their initial foundations coming from Italy the glue certainly came from Manchester!
Shiva May Care will be bringing their Shaman Rock N Roll to this year’s Outlaw Rock N’ Roll Weekend! Throw AC/DC, Backyard Babies & The Stooges into a blender toss in a heavy dose of steroids & a seriously impressive vocalist who has a shimmer of Glenn Hughes & Coverdale back in the day and you get Shiva May Care.

Tickets are already over 50% sold for this year’s festival and we still have 9 more artists to announce on the main stage!

Manchester’s dirty rock n blues mavericks, Gorilla Riot release brand new music with single, ‘Black Heart Woman‘, out today on Fri 24 January across all download and streaming platforms.

Black Heart Woman‘ is taken from their first full-length album, ‘PEACH‘, which is now available for pre-order at gorillariotband.com and also pre-save for streaming at https://backl.ink/100686089

PEACH‘ is available in Digital, CD and Vinyl formats and released through Off Yer Rocka Recordings (OYR). Distribution is via Cargo Records with a release date of Friday 31 January 2020. An album launch show will be held at Rebellion, Manchester on Sat 08 Feb 2020.

GR frontman, Arjun Bhishma, said, “Black Heart Woman came about after messing around with some basic open chords on the guitar. It is heavily influenced by 70’s rock, both musically and lyrically.

The song offered us something different to include on our new album, ‘Peach’, than we had done previously. Namely a more up-tempo feel whilst still retaining the Riot sound. It’s a lot of fun to play live! I recorded the vocals with my (now) ex-girlfriend staring at me from across the room. That may have been a mistake. She was expecting a ballad…

Gorilla Riot are a 5-piece dirty rock n’ roll blues machine from Manchester, England. Using a 3-prong guitar attack with multi-part vocal harmonies; they play raucous blues-based rock, combining elements of grunge, stoner, and country to create a full-on high energy show.

Created by mainman, Arjun Bhishma, he surrounded himself with the best talent in Manchester to form Gorilla Riot.  Arjun, Liam Henry (guitars & vocals), Charly T. (guitars & vocals), James Degnen (bass), have been recently joined by Will Lewis on skins.

Equally at home acoustically or electrically they toured extensively last year with shows in Spain and France, and then across the UK with Australian rockers, Massive before ending the year on the Planet Rock Roadstars tour, with Piston and Hannah Wicklund.

Along with the release of ‘PEACH‘, Gorilla Riot have their song, ‘Bad Son‘, included on the forthcoming ‘Earache presents New Wave Of Rock N Roll’ compilation album, to be released on Fri 13 March 2020

Review: Gorilla Riot – Peach

Off Ye Rocka Recordings (January 31st 2020)

Reviewer: Steve Borkowski

I first became aware of Mancunian 5 piece Gorilla Riot at Ramblin’ Man where I was blown away by their performance on the Rising Stage back in July 2018 and caught them later that year at HRH CROWS in Sheffield where I picked up their EP ‘American Honey Vol 1‘.

Initially I was surprised by the EP as I was expecting the energy of the stage performance and anyone who owns the EP will know that it’s stripped back, semi acoustic set.

With a few plays I began to really enjoy the EP, but still wanted something that represented what I’d heard on stage and with ‘Peach‘ I finally have it.

Peach‘ shows not only how versatile the band are but just how far they have come in a relatively short space of time. The record draws inspiration from a multitude of genres and times, from classic rock of Black Sabbath to the grunge of Nirvana and the southern rock of The Black Crowes, while keeping true to their stoner rock roots, there really is something for every type of rock lover on this record.

This record opens with an instrumental, ‘Riders‘, and this gives the listener an idea of what to expect from the whole album. A much harder, grittier edge to it than previous released EPs, the triple intertwining guitars are still very much evident, but there’s heavier, monstrous bass lines and pounding drums driving each track.

The first couple of times I played it, I struggled, perhaps the wrong frame of mind when I initially listened, but I stuck with it and after a few plays I noticed the intricate solos, punchy vocals and most of all swagger of the album begin to shine through. For me the album was definitely a grower and I look forward to hearing the tracks live.

Stand out tracks for me – ‘Beat Your Bite‘, ‘Half Cut‘, ‘Mind Your Head‘, ‘Riders II‘.

Fast rising dirty southern rock n blues mavericks, Gorilla Riot announce a new single, ‘Young Guns‘ and a raft of UK show dates. ‘Young Guns‘ is taken from their forthcoming album which is slated for release early in November, in Digital, CD and Vinyl formats on Off Yer Rocka Recordings (OYR).

‘Young Guns‘ will be released across all digital and streaming platforms on Fri 12 July 2019. It will be accompanied by a lyric video produced by Studface Productions.

‘Young Guns‘ tells the tales of the Riot’s frontman, Arjun Bhishma’s debauched time in Edinburgh, Scotland, whereas a young man he lived from one party to the next, experiencing and living in the moment with a group of friends as only ‘young guns’ can.

Arjun Bhishma, said, “The song is about an adventure I had when I was living up in Edinburgh. I lived a ludicrous life up there with my mates. This song was a way for me to remember those hazy days with admiration. All we had was the next party, who knows where we would end up?

He added, “It has a straight up rock ‘n’ roll riff that I came up with whilst messing around with a few licks on the guitar. I felt an Aerosmith vibe from it so I took the whole song in that direction. As a band we stuck to that feel, whilst still sounding like us. The chorus and chords are simple and memorable – it’s a feel good rock tune.

“As always we laid down the drums in the ‘proper’ studio and then worked on the rest at GRHQ in a room above a lawn tennis club. Once we got David Thomas’ drums sent from the studio, we recorded all of the guitars sat on a large stuffed jungle cat. It really amped up the atmosphere!”

Equally at home acoustically or electrically they released their last studio work in May 2018. American Honey Vol 1 saw the guys extend their sound and song-writing prowess with 3 new songs plus an exquisite re-working of their hit song, Last Hymn.

Gorilla Riot recently announced that they have signed a 2-album deal with Off Yer Rocka Recordings, the first of which will be released later in Nov 2019.

Having played in Spain and France earlier this year, they now return home to complete their album and to play a range of headline, support and festival shows.

* As main support to Massive
** Co-headline tour with Hanna Wicklund & The Stepping Stones

South Carolinian-born Hannah Wicklund will release her third album ‘Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin’ Stones‘ on Strawberry Moon Records in the UK on Friday 13th September. The album was produced by Sadler Vaden, guitarist for Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit and received rave review when it was released in the US last year.

The album dovetails her nationwide UK Roadstars tour with Piston and Gorilla Riot in October. Tickets for the UK tour can be booked via www.planetrocktickets.co.uk and www.thegigcartel.com and from the 24 hour box office: 08444 780 898.

The 10-track self-released album was recorded in Nashville, TN and is a fresh take on Wicklund’s musical influences drawn from ’60s, ’70s and ’80s guitar-driven rock. “Once we started writing some songs, I saw that she had a real, raw talent,” says Producer Vaden. “I was inspired to work with her by her love of classic rock music and blues. I wanted to honour that in making this album, but also add a little modern edge to it.”

On her latest self-titled album, Wicklund taps into the fury of loneliness (Ghost). She resurrects spectres of Hendrix and Joplin (Looking Glass) as well as power ballad intensity (Strawberry Moon). Then, just as she’s supercharged you with about as much raw energy as you can channel, she lets you down gently with the acoustic intimacy of Shadow Boxes, but even here, her singing achieves an intensity that most artists can only dream of matching. Her music stands on a bedrock of razor-edged, old-school rock ’n’ roll reanimated by a new generation’s urgency.

That impression is doubly emphasised in the video for the album’s first single, Bomb Through The Breeze (playlisted on Planet Rock) It’s a hurricane of swirling colour interspersed with spare shots of Wicklund and her band in action, with black bunnies and slithering snakes adding an eerie visual complement.

The video for the latest single Shadowbowboxes and Porcelain Faces showcases the emotional toll the darkness of our digital lives takes. Says Hannah: “The lyrics can be interpreted in many ways, but for me it was meant to show how consumed by technology you can feel sometimes.” She continues: “Growing up in this day and age, there has been a screen in front of me constantly—especially during my last three years touring in the United States.” The footage used in the video are from Cuba, where she spent a week was completely detached from her phone. “It was very refreshing to detox and I came back feeling a lot more refreshed and a big reason was because of the lack of a screen constantly in my face,” she explains.

Two of the most exciting new prospects in the world of blues rock will tour together for the very first time throughout October 2019. Touring under the moniker of “ROADSTARS” – this hi-octane live extravaganza promises to be one of the hottest double bill concert tours to hit the UK in 2019.

The tour includes American blues rock guitarist Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin Stones, who Joe Bonamassa describes as “a kaleidoscope of blazing guitars and searing vocals,” plus Manchester rock band Gorilla Riot.  Every night each band will alternative as headliners, giving them equal share of the limelight.

Tickets, PRICED £14, are on sale from 10am on Tuesday 2nd April and can be booked from www.thegigcartel.com and from the 24-Hour Box Office: 0844 478 0898.

Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin Stones are fronted by a 21-year-old powerhouse guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. The South Carolina-born, Nashville-based artist who formed the band as an eight-year-old, has developed a powerful and sublime synthesis of guitar skills and makes it clear that the future is hers for the taking. Hannah has performed over 2,000 shows including festival appearances. Here, she digs in deep, hits hard, and crushes it. Her latest album is an aural kaleidoscope of blazing guitars and searing vocals, that establishes Wicklund as a triple-threat player, singer and writer in the same vein as Susan Tedeschi and the Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde. The album’s producer, Sadler Vaden, who’s also guitarist with Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, says, “Once we started writing some songs, I saw that she had a real, raw talent and had a love of classic rock music and blues. I wanted to honour that in making this album, but also add a little modern edge to it.”

Gorilla Riot are a 5-piece dirty rock n’ roll blues machine from Manchester, England. They play raucous blues-based rock, combining elements of grunge, stoner and country to create a full-on high energy rock show.

The band began song writing and soon entered the studio to record their debut self-titled album. This set them on their path to deliver their blues-drenched dirty sound that evolved into the acclaimed EP, ‘Six Shots Down‘ in 2017.

Hot off the back of a barnstorming set at HRH AOR, Manchester’s dirty southern rock n roll blues mavericks, Gorilla Riot release a new single, ‘Half Cut‘, on Fri 29 March. It’s taken from their forthcoming album which is slated for release later this year, in Digital, CD and Vinyl formats on Off Yer Rocka Recordings (OYR).

In true maverick Gorilla Riot style, the song is an eclectic mix of free-flowing consciousness; no linear narrative, no chorus, and a huge chunk of guitar awesomeness.

The single is accompanied by a lyric visualiser produced by Studface Studios.

Mainman, Arjun Bhishma, said, “At the time of writing I was heavily into Contraband by Velvet Revolver. I love that record and I think you can hear some influence from that style of ‘machine’ rock. Once I came up with the riff I still wanted to embed the song into some blues, so the verse riff is just a play on a simple riff with the gain cranked up. The solo came after I gave the song to the boys. It’s not usually the style of song that Charly would get to solo on but we chose to mix it up and he just ran with it, creating this behemoth of a guitar piece.

He added, “The song is a small window into experiences that I have had. It chronicles certain nights/days of revelry, highlighted with splashes of chemical colour. Without going into any specifics, the lyrics are simply supposed to provide a setting for the listener to interpret as they see fit.

“The recording process was the same as always for us. We get the drums and bass down at Futureworks studio with our engineer Carl Brown. The rest we do in our living rooms, surrounded by incense and cucumbers.”
