Review: Collateral, Enuff Z’Nuff, Skid Row

Tuesday night’s gig at Rock City was without question one of the most highly anticipated gigs of the year! Why? Well it was a chance for the rock faithful to see Erik Grönwall fronting Skid Row.

Before we get to Skid Row, we had two support acts. Firstly a band who as some of you know are a personal favorite of mine. That band is Collateral, a band I’ve seen quite a few times, watching them grow over the last few years. Without a doubt tonight they took matters to another level. Collateral obviously suit a bigger stage. Their short set wasn’t the performance of a support act, it was one of a headline act!

Next up were American rockers Enuff Z’Nuff. Led by the charismatic Chip z’Nuff, the band gave us an unusual setlist, comprising mainly of Beatles covers, which had a mixed response from the crowd. Personally I enjoyed their set, which finished with the band’s best known track ‘Fly High Michelle‘.

And so to the headliners. Skid Row return to the UK with a new frontman, ex H.E.A.T vocalist and one of the best frontmen in the buisness Erik Grönwall.

Whoever came up with this pairing or however it came about, it certinly is a genius move. Skid Row are regenerated, renewed, new vigor and attitude flow from every band member. Watching Eric, it’s hard to believe that this is a guy whose just recovered from leukemia! He’s still the Duracell bunny, bouncing round the stage, the rest of the band feeding off all the positive energy. The crowd were pumped up, singing along, thoroughly enjoying the performance. And that folks, is what any band wants.
