Review: Drive At Night – Echoes Of An Era

Since receiving the promo copy of ‘Echoes Of An Era‘ I’ve played it and re-visited it a few times in the vain hope that I somehow connect with it.
Let me explain. On paper ‘Echoes Of An Era‘ should be bang on the money taste wise. With Joachim Nordlund and Johan Lindstedt at the helm my interest was peaked, but this attempt at an ’80’s’ style melodic rock album just falls a little flat. There’s a lack of punch to the songs which themselves come across almost cringeworthy at times. Plus a lot of the songs are very, shall we say samey.
To be fair, it’s not a bad album, I don’t hate it, it just doesn’t grab me in the way I anticipated it would.
The only song that really sticks out is ‘Endless Kind Of Love‘, Drive At Night‘s ‘More Than Words’, a song I personally loath, thankfully the Drive At Night track is a hell of a lot more palatable and one of the better songs on the album.
So there we are, sorry I can’t give ‘Echoes Of An Era‘ a glowing review, but I’d rather be honest, and at the end of the day it’s only my opinion and you’ll probably love it.
