Review: Eyes (SE) – Perfect Vision 20/20

When I first heard about Eyes (SE), what perked my interest was the inclusion of ex-Aces High members Anders Sellborn on bass, Björn H. Lindbäck on drums, Joakim Sandberg on guitar and keyboardist Åke David Rickard. As a big fan of the three Aces High albums I have hoped that some new material would be released some day, so I was really hoping that ‘Perfect Vision 20/20‘ would go some way to fulfill that.

I’ve listened to the album quite a few times over the last couple of weeks and have come to the following conclusion.

It’s almost an album of two halves, the first four tracks are somewhat ploddy and haven’t really grabbed me that much. However as soon as you reach track five, ‘Falling In Between (The Joker)‘ it’s like the band finally release their inner Aces High! Hell even vocalist Peter Andersson suddenly sounds like Aces High‘s Bjorn Anderson.

No longer are the tracks ploddy, but delivered to your lugholes is some decent hard rock, the sort I was kind of hoping I’d be hearing. Oh how I wish the whole album was like this but then again it’s only my personal view and the rest of you might actually love the affor mentioned first four songs.

It will be interesting to see how Eyes (SE) progress, I’ll certainly put up with certain tracks if the remainder are like ‘Shot Down In Flames‘ or ‘Cry Another Day‘ or the previously mentioned ‘Falling In Between (The Joker)‘ which is my favorite song on the album.

I appreciate they’re not Aces High, but they do make a point of mentioning the ex-members. That certainly raises some expectations. However, they are not and really need to stand on their own two feet as it were.

All in all an album certainly worth checking out.
