Kickin ValentinaChaos In Copenhagen (EP)

Mighty Music  (December 6th 2019)

Reviewer: Paul Saripo

Kickin Valentina, hailing from Atlanta, are one of the best live bands I have seen in recent years, so I was pleased for the opportunity to review the bands new EP, here it is ‘Chaos in Copenhagen’ which is set to be released 6th December.

This is not just any EP release, this is 3 brand new songs, a new frontman and a live version of ‘Get Ready’ recorded live at this years Bang Your Head Festival 2019.

Kickin Valentina at the beginning of 2019 introduced a new frontman into the equation in the form of D.k. Revelle (Ex Jetboy)

Some processes and changes happen for a reason and this new line up is no exception.

The EP opens up with ‘Sweat’ a full-on anthem that will have you on your feet singing and head swinging around to precision beat delivery by Jimmy Berdine hammering out the drums, this is one hell of a track with a solid vibe.

Next up and maintaining the momentum is ‘Easy Ryder’ menacing drums duelling with some serious bass lines, low strung and delivered by Chris Taylor ripping up the bass strings, whilst Heber Pampillon works the guitar providing some serious riffs and solo work.

Shake Down’ follows on, in a slightly different approach, exercising vocal harmonies and lyrical hooks that show the range of ability in not only maintaining well written and original songs, but in the delivery of a sound that’s so catchy it feels like this will be an epidemic.

Last track, ‘Get Ready’ (Live at Bang Your Head) is up next and it has 3 brand new stellar tracks before it to compete with. Well It’s a belter, not only is this a fantastic live performance capturing most of the unique elements of Kickin Valentina, it is mixed to perfection and sits well on this EP.  Since recruiting the new vocalist and touring extensively this year D.K. Revelle has proved his commitment and delivers his powerhouse vocals into the bands well eared an proven brand of ‘loud unapologetic rock n roll’

This EP is not only a masterpiece from start to finish, but a prelude of what is to come from a  band of talented and experienced song writers with real stage presence delivering full on freight train rock’n’roll in and out of the studio.

It’s rare for a festival to garner such high praise in its inaugural year as Call of
the Wild Festival did, held at Lincolnshire Showground back in late May.

Preparations for 2020 began immediately and today came the announcement of the first wave of bands.

Main stage Special Guests are the phenomenal Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics. Formed by former Heaven’s Basement frontman Aaron Buchanan, the band gained a huge following quickly and toured with Buckcherry, Skid Row & Skindred to name a few. Recently performing at Download festival, it’s a huge privilege to have the band at Call of the Wild in 2020.

Other very popular main acts confirmed are; Skarlett Riot, Every Mother’s Nightmare, Midnite City, Kickin Valentina, Hell’s Addiction, Last Hounds and Resin & The Fiascos.

Bringing a huge slice of Scandinavian rock to the festival are; The Cruel Intentions, Confess & Lipz.

The £65 earlybird tickets sold out within a week which equalled the first year’s sales immediately.

Second Chance Earlybird tickets are currently on sale from Gigantic Tickets for £79 which includes camping & car park. Families are very welcome, with under 10s going FREE!

Glamping options are also currently available.

Super Atomic

Review: Kickin’ Valentina – Super Atomic

Highway 9 Records (2015)

Reviewer: Aaron Chatfield

First time I heard the name Kickin Valentina was when they were announced as part of the line up for the Rockerz Go Wild gig that acts as an unofficial pre-cruise party to the infamous Monsters of Rock Cruise, however, I have never really taken the time to listen to their music, so I was looking forward to my first taste.

Super Atomic is a 7 track EP (6 really, as the opener ‘Sermon’ is just a spoken word intro), and is the band’s second release. If you are a fan of loud, dirty & gritty Rawk n f**k n Roll, then this may be your bag. ‘On My Side’ launches itself from the speakers on the back of a driving drums and a chugging guitar riff, before vocalist Joe Edwards makes his presence felt. He’s got the type of pipes that are unique to rock, the right mix of sawdust and motor oil. It’s a great start and if I owned a Dodge Charger, I’d want this to blast when I turned the key!

Wrong Way’ and ‘When You’re Gone’ continue the assault. Straight ahead rockerz that remind me in parts of bands like Junkyard and Little Caesar, with a little Salty Dog and Sea Hags in parts. The music is pretty straight forward, but the songs are well crafted for the genre. The album closes with ‘Fist n Twist’, ‘Some Kind of Atomic Poster Boy’ and ‘Some Kind of Sex’, none of which is going to see KV at the top of the charts, but will keep any beer fueled party going until the morning.

Overall, I like this band, four on the floor, V8, nitro fuelled, rock n roll which will get you playing air guitar and downing your beer in a heartbeat. If you are after lush keyboards, 4 octave vocals and soaring guitar leads, then keep walking, if you are in the mood for a party (preferably outside, by a pool, with burgers and ribs on the BBQ), then you could do far worse!
