Crashdiet Nominated For Grammy Award

CrashDiet have solidified themselves as Sweden’s premiere glam metal outfit by being nominated for a Swedish Grammy for their fourth album, The Savage Playground, which was released earlier in 2013.
Produced and recorded by Otto Wellton at Kingside Studios, The Savage Playground slammed into the Swedish national charts, peaking at #2 on the strength of the album’s first single, “Cocaine Cowboys.”  “It’s a fantastic feeling when you reach that high on the chart,” says CrashDiet guitarist, Martin Sweet. “It only confirms that our fan base is growing every year and we’re tremendously thankful for that!”
2013 was the busiest year of the band’s career to date, with extreme highs and lows in spades.  “2013 is a year we will never forget,” reflects Sweet. “It’s probably the year that made the biggest impact on us as persons.  We had some great highs and horrible lows – our manager’s passing – which will definitely change the way we look at things forever.  The passing of Michael Sunden, is, of course, heartbreaking.  He will remembered as the guy who took us to America for the first time.  A true visionary.”
With the Grammy nomination, the band ends the year on a huge note.  “This is our second Grammy nomination and, we’re surprised, as always, and, of course, very honoured to be a part of this old tradition.  Win or lose, we’re happy either way.  We do what we do,” wraps up Sweet.
The 45th Annual Swedish Grammy Awards (“Grammis”) will take place on 19 February 2014 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Top 10 Albums 2013

I know it’s a cliche saying what a struggle it is to choose only ten albums, but this year it really has been a tricky one.

And so without being in any particular order, here they are –

A special mention goes out to not an album, but an EP, which I cannot stop playing –

Buck & Evans

And so onwards to 2014 and it’s already looking rather promising.

Heart’s “Fanatic Live From Caesars Colosseum” to be released Feb 24th

heart_fanaticlive_CD_sm

Frontiers Records are set to release Heart’s concert “Fanatic Live From Caesars Colosseum” on CD+DVD Deluxe Edition, DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on Monday 24th February 2014.

The history behind this recording began in 2012, which was a year of major achievements for Heart. In addition to Ann and Nancy’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and news that they had been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the year was filed with musical accomplishments.

Wilson combed their archives for a definitive four CD box set release in the early part of the year, and in the fall of 2012, released their “Fanatic” album to strong critical and fan acclaim.  To support the release of “Fanatic,” the band embarked upon a major North American headline tour, which ended with a magnificent performance at Caesars Colosseum in Windsor, Ontario, which was filmed by AXS-TV. Heart will be performing shows in North America in February, March and April, 2014 as a continuation of the “Fanatic” tour.

Heart’s long been associated with Canada having broken out in Vancouver in 1976 with the release of Dreamboat Annie. Their return to Canada for the Fanatic tour was greeted with the kind of enthusiasm Canadians save for their own.  Ben Mink, who produced the Fanatic CD and is another great Canadian musician, joined Heart on stage at Windsor, playing fiddle and leading a string ensemble.

In addition to songs from the “Fanatic” album which were performed for the first time for the television viewing audience, “Fanatic Live From Caesars Colosseum” also showcases many of Heart’s classic hits including Barracuda, Crazy on You, These Dreams, Alone, What About Love, and many more.  A digital download is available via iTunes and includes an instant download of a new rendition of the Heart classic Dog And Butterfly.

Over the group’s four-decade history, Heart had different line-ups, with the constant centre of the group since 1974 being sisters lead singer Ann Wilson and guitarist Nancy Wilson. Heart has sold over 30 million records worldwide, including over 22 million in album sales in America. The group was ranked number 57 on VH1’s “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock”. With Top 10 albums on the Billboard Album Chart in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2010s, Heart is among the most commercially enduring bands in rock.

Bggren Kerslake Band “The Sun Has Gone Hazy” released January 24th 2014

bkb-cover-web

Swedish singer, guitarist & keyboard player Stefan Berggren (M3-Classic Whitesnake, The Company of Snakes, Razorback,  Snakes In Paradise & Revolution Road) met legendary UK drummer Lee Kerslake (OZZY, Uriah Heep) for the first time 2005 in Friedrichshafen in Southern Germany when Berggren performed with M3 and Kerslake with Uriah Heep. A couple of years later they ended up in Zürich (Switzerland) and did some more shows. This time together in the same band, but not under the flag BKB yet.

In 2011 Kerslake phoned Berggren up and asked if he could do to do an acoustic show with him in Helsinki (Finland). Both musicians at the time were looking for a new challenge and Berggren Kerslake Band was born. Tomas Thorberg, a Snakes In Paradise/Michael Schenker/John Norum gunslinger, was asked to take over the bass guitar. Berggren also brought in another long time friend called Joakim Svalberg  (Opeth,Yngwie Malmsteen) as guest who played some fantastic organ & Moog solos.

Drums, bass, some guitars and rough vocals were recorded live at Boo studio. The rest of the recordings took place at  Berggren’s studios Stockholm. Lennart Östlund  (ABBA, Led Zeppelin) handled the final mixes and mastering of the album at the PolarStudio  except the song “Walk Tall” which was mixed by Berggren and mastered by Pete Lyman (Rival Sons)
