Album Review: Sari Schorr – Running Wild

Album Review: Sari Schorr – Running Wild

Provogue Records – October 9th, 2026

Reviewer – David Brighouse

This is the third studio album from the acclaimed New York born singer, recognised for her range and the ability to move effortlessly from vocal powerhouse to emotional balladeer with equal intensity and impact.

Album opener and lead single ‘Mr In The Middle‘ is about a relationship where the commitment isn’t matched on both sides, it starts with a Jimi Hendrix-esque fuzzy guitar riff before moving into what is a fairly straight forward rocker to get the party started. Title track and current single ‘Running Wild‘ is a more bluesy affair, which examines the nature of desire and control, and has some almost lyrical guitar playing.

‘Monday Morning‘ has a funky feel and some great piano playing, and the title is a bit misleading as it’s primarily about what happens between Friday and Monday. ‘Man On Fire‘ is a beautiful and deeply personal song, inspired by her father it deals with adversity and resilience. ‘Cool Hand Rider‘ picks up the pace again with the band really kicking-it alongside Sari’s soaring vocals.

‘Elevate‘ has a real groove to it and is obviously designed to give the listener a real lift, which it does wonderfully. The opening guitar riff and organ of ‘Call It Freedom’ have a jazz feel and are perfectly matched by the smoky vocal in this slow burner which ignites in the latter stages with a superb guitar solo. Although it’s the Blues ‘Better Day’ is another song designed to be uplifting, but it’s up to us all to make sure tomorrow is better than today, and with music like this to listen to why on earth not?

‘Afterglow‘ perfectly demonstrates what a great songwriter Sari has become as it builds from a slow beginning to an all-encompassing anthem complete with more great guitar and organ playing, not to mention the outstanding singing. Closing number ‘Finding My Way‘ is a more stripped back track with the focus firmly on the strong vocal.

This album is a great showcase for both Sari’s singing and her songwriting, and she’s more than ably supported by her band. The singer herself describes this record as the album she’s dreamt of making all her life, and as “a record that gave me more than I expected, and I hope it gives something meaningful back to the people who hear it.” I for one am sure it will.
