Review: The Devil Wears Nada – In Lust We Thrust

Eönian Records – July 10th, 2026

Reviewer – Jason Hopper

I have been aware of the band The Devil Wears Nada for a few years. Having discovered them by their original name, Adecence, I purchased their debut CD, ‘Postalgia‘ (review here), in 2024. The track ‘Juliet’ was one of the best songs of that year and absolutely should be sought out if you have not heard it.

Fast forward one year and the band is signed to Eönian Records and re-released their debut album with their new name and a few bonus tracks. Now these boys from Sweden are set to release ‘In Lust We Thrust‘, a title so clever I can’t believe it was never opted by Steel Panther.

The band seems to have pivoted with this release. While their debut had strong shades of Ghost and Lordi, there is more of a Scandinavian melodic rock influence similar to bands like Remedy and (especially) Nestor, a band so influential to them, they covered ‘1989’ as a bonus track.  When you mix this with their horror rooted elements, you get one of the most exciting albums of the year.

I’ve played this album at least twelve times and still crave to hear it. Nearly all the songs are great, so I’ll go with my top pics. Opener, and first single, ‘Brat With A Baseball Bat’ is a high-energy blaster about a girl returning from the dead to seek revenge. It sounds dark, but it’s sold by the band with an upbeat, catchy pop sheen in the vain of bands like The Runaway Wild or Lordi, never taking its themes too serious.

Next on my list of top tracks is ‘Misery Is You’, a song that contains what will probably be one of my favorite lines of any chorus this year: “You can run, you can hide, but you can’t get away.  She’s a killer and I’m a cliché.”  It has an infectious Scandi-driven melody that’s punchy and anthemic.  Kudos to guitarist Henrik Westergren for the fantastic solo. I love it when a guitarist includes a solo that mimics the vocal melody line. It hammers home that the chorus is so catchy it needs to also be placed in the guitar solo.

Elephant In The Room’ is another song about a woman who may or may not be lethal, which seems to be a throughline that runs across the album. The keyboards are front and center here and mix in a bit of AOR flair into a mid-tempo rocker. The promo from the label refers to it as a power ballad, but its tempo is too fast be considered a ballad.

‘Victoria’ is a pure high-energy blast that sounds like the band combined the Nestor tracks ‘Firesign’ and ‘1989” into a song about love’s merciless grip. It seems the band was as impressed with Nestor’s debut as I was. Nestor’s album, and this track in particular, has that band’s fingerprints all over this release.

Directly after that song, the band switches gears into what can only be their next direct influence. ‘Dead End Breakfast’ is a straight-up Lordi song, but with more mellifluous vocals.  Everything save the vocals are exactly the type of construct of that band. The promo material reveals that the former drummer of Lordi (the drummer known as Kita) co-wrote recent single ‘Elephant In The Room’. He surely had a hand in writing this song as well. ‘Shotgun Wedding’ also carries a similar Lordi aesthetic, especially the keyboards, which sound sufficiently eldritch.

There is only one critique I could find about the album and it’s a small one. The title track has a solid, heavy groove, but it is a bit undermined by the drummer’s high hat that is mixed a bit too loud. I found the strikes to the high hat and the punchiness in which it’s played to be a distraction. It seems to be purposeful, but it detracts overall.

The band is musically multi-layered in their song approach and sound.  Lyrically, the band loves to sing about women who may or may not kill them. Although I have the album for review, I will be purchasing the CD to support this release, and you should too. I have high hopes for this band getting the recognition they deserve. Fans of Nestor, Remedy, and Lordi will dig the hell out of this release.
