Review: Kevin Steele – One Thing Left To Do
Steele Records – (February 27th, 2026)

Kevin Steele the legendary lead singer and frontman of Roxx Gang and The Mojo Gurus is back with his first solo record which features 11 tracks that showcase his masterful songwriting across a variety of musical styles.
The album kicks off with the title track ‘One Thing Left To Do‘ and is a straight forward Punky Garage Rock track which gets straight to the point in a rough and ready way. Lead single ‘Snake Charmer‘ has a sleazy groove that slithers around and is the story of a man under the spell of a females’ wiles.
The title of next track ‘The Bedspring Boogie‘ says it all, features some fine piano from Steve Peake, great guitar and romps along in fine style. ‘I Know What Yer Up To‘ is a fuzzy blues number which just misses the mark. ‘Sad, Sad Song‘ is a slower emotional track where Kevin really opens himself up.
‘The 9 Lives Blues‘ is underpinned by standard blues riff, with the piano again shining and a great vocal performance. ‘Fingers Crossed‘ slips into country mode with plenty of pedal steel guitar and a theme of you can’t believe anything I said to you as I had my fingers crossed. ‘Nobody Tells Me When To Quit‘ is a funky rocker, enhanced by trombone, backing vocals and fuzzy guitar.
‘My Baby Didn’t Come Home Last Night‘ is old style rock’n’roll with the piano again to the fore à la Little Richard. I can only describe ‘There’s A Better Way Comin’‘ as a midtempo blues number and it’s an end of the evening sort of song, with organ the main instrument. Finally, ‘Don’t You Worry ‘Bout Me’‘ is acoustic blues, with some great guitar picking and is a nice mellow closer to the album.
This is the first time I’ve come across Kevin Steele and unfortunately this album hasn’t persuaded me to seek out his other work, it does improve as you go through and with repeated listens, and he’s a fine singer, it just didn’t grab me. But if you’re already a fan and it’s the style of music you’re into then I’m sure this will appeal.
