Review: Robert Jon & The Wreck / Eddie 9V
Rock City, Nottingham, (December 1st, 2024)

Out on a Sunday night? Yes I was, and for a very good reason! What was on the cards was a night of live music at Rock City.
First act of the night was Eddie 9V. Now I’ll be honest and say that apart from a few press releases etc, I wasn’t overly familiar with Eddie 9V. I was however looking forward to the set having heard good things on the grapevine.
Well what an absolute treat, what a fantastic live band! The only, and I mean only disappointment was the short set, only seven songs, but there is that old adage of leave people wanting more. And more I certainly want. Hopefully Eddie and the boys come back to Blighty soon.

And so to the headliners, Robert Jon & The Wreck. I’ve seen the band a few times now, first time in a small venue, and I’ve seen their audience grow with every tour, the venues increasing in size accordingly. Hence now Rock City.
I’m a fan of their albums, and they’ve released more music than some people realise, but I’m more a fan of them live. You just get some bands who come alive on a stage, taking those songs you’re familiar with and giving them the space and impact they deserve, in doing so they make those songs even more enjoyable.
As I’ve already said, I’ve seen Robert Jon & The Wreck a few times over the last few years, Sunday night’s performance was in my humble opinion the best I’ve ever seen them. The crowd were also thoroughly enjoying the set, enthusiastically singing the chorus of ‘Oh Miss Carolina‘, much to the band’s obvious delight.
To coin an old phrase, us Brits have taken them to our heart, and rightly so. They deliver on all fronts. The lead vocals of Robert Jon Burrison, Henry James Schneekluth and his superb guitar work, the ‘engine room’ of Andrew Espantman on drums, and, Warren Murrel on bass, and Jake Abernathie tinkling the hell out of the old ivories!
If for some incomprehensible reason you’ve not caught Robert Jon & The Wreck live yet, then make sure you grab a ticket to their Spring Tour.
