Born from a voice note where singer Maria was originally humming the melody, ‘Begging Mercy‘ is one of the first songs that came out of the band’s early jams together as a band back in 2020. Despite going through multiple changes, this song has been a staple in their set since the beginning of the band, maturing and growing as their musicality developed through the years to its final version that you are hearing now.
Musically it’s the song that shows the band’s blues influence the most, the intro being almost a straight up minor 12 bar blues. Maria’s roaring vocals bring us into the main body of the song which is a fuzz infused blues rock epic.
Lyrically the song mixes themes of lust and religion. Inspired by Maria’s upbringing in a Catholic school she thought it would be interesting to write a song that is a juxtaposition of catholic practices and lust to bring tension into the narrative.
‘Begging Mercy’ features an ambitious production style which is becoming a signature of Luna Marble. The classic 4 piece rock band setup is enhanced with multiple vocal layers creating a dark and enchanting atmosphere, psychedelic effects and a notable Hammond Organ performance that brings that classic 60s/70s nostalgia.
To pair this release the band DIYed their own music video set in a gothic cathedral showcasing their ambitious creativity and vision for the theme of the song setting a witchy and spiritual aesthetic for this release.
