Review: The Dead Daisies – Light ‘Em Up

So this week is really special as I get to review the brand new AC/DC ALBUM, no wait the new one by Kiss …. Nope! Perhaps The Cult? Well, actually it’s none of the above, those are just some of the massive influences on display firmly next to if not replacing their hearts on their sleeves! I am of course actually reviewing the brand new album ‘Light ‘Em Up’ by The Dead Daisies and what a scorcher it is!!

Put it this way, If this album doesn’t get your foot tapping, leg stomping or your head trying its hardest to come off your shoulders then check you still have a pulse! This band just does not mess about!

We begin with an Intro riff and straight away the band kicks in on the album opener which is the title track. It’s just straight ahead hard rock n roll! And it’s pretty much foot to the floor from beginning to end!

The second track ‘Times are Changing’ pretty much continues where track one leaves off and the rest of the album then settles in to a few different grooves! Along the way I was also hearing shades of ‘Union’ Corabi’s band with Bruce Kulick who I also really liked!

I am so glad John Corabi is back in the band. The ones with Glenn Hughes were good but it just wasn’t the same and to me now he’s back in the band they once again have renewed energy and to me it shows!!

The straight ahead no frills hard Rock n Roll continues into track 3 ‘I Wanna Be Your Bitch‘ is just straight up and down AC/DC to my ears anyway!

I just hear, as I said earlier so many influences here and they’re not afraid to dive in to them. No they’re not copying just merely tapping into a massive resource or just standing upon the shoulders of giants and that’ll more than do for me!

New drummer Tommy Cluefetos really lays down the groove here. Do I miss Brian Tichy? Yeh sure he’s a monster drummer but Tommy here is just as good so the energy doesn’t suffer at all! Doug Aldrich is as on form as he ever is. A superb player and then you have Michael Devin on bass and band leader David Lowy on guitars fill out a cracking rhythm section!

Anyway I could go in to say what each track sounds like but I’m not going to try and describe every nuance, that’s your job, you’re the listener to do that bit and take it all in, But I will say that I am hugely enjoying this and I’ll even go so far to say ‘Welcome back The Dead Daisies!’
