Kings County – New Single & Video ‘Wish’

Orlando, Fl. based hard rock band, Kings County, always reinvent themselves with each song they record and go way beyond the realm of possibilities with every video they do. Their cover of Nine Inch Nails 1992 single, ‘Wish‘ does just that. The video is also no exception and was filmed at the West Virginia Penitentiary, that was built in 1866, and held the worst of the worst murderers, rapists and just downright evil people.

Bassist Rob Dexter says, “Ever since Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails came on my radar in the early 90’s, I was an instant fan. Reznor’s vision was not following trends of the music that was popular back then, but paving his own way through the industrial rock scene, incorporating unique keyboard sounds with hard rock. I’ve always had the idea of “recreating” their song ‘Wish‘ for years. The song has such amazing raw energy, and a new revamped version was due.”

When Kings County decided to cover, “Wish” they wanted to make the drums bigger by using real drums, as opposed to a drum machine in the original version. They also wanted the guitars to be heavier and thicker, so they layered a ton of guitar tracks. Their producer, Chuck Alkazian, created the traditional Nine Inch Nails keyboard sound and Dexter added some of his best Trent Reznor signature screams, which absolutely explodes off of the track.

Dexter remarks, “Shooting the video for ‘Wish‘ at West Virginia Penitentiary was a once in a lifetime experience. We had full reign of the premises, which allowed us to get some amazing shots. There are a lot of dark vibes in the building, such a thick negative energy, that I’ve never felt before.

The band also encountered a lot of unexplainable and bizarre things that ended up on video like sounds of footsteps, disembodied voices, screams and laughing. One of the camera lenses cracked out of nowhere and some of the files of one of the main scenes that was shot became corrupt and couldn’t be retrieved.

Kings County has “recreated” something that completely blows you away, by sonically taking, ‘Wish‘ to a whole new level with a great modern sound, while still respecting the integrity of the original recording and arrangement. The accompanied video is beyond words and can be considered a horror movie that collides with a hard rock music video.

Wish‘ was produced by Producer and Engineer, Chuck Alkazian (Pop Evil, Soundgarden, Tantric) at Pearl Sound Studios (Asking Alexandria, Eminem, Filter) in Canton, MI.
