Review: She Burns Red – Out Of Darkness

Self-Release (September 15th 2023)

Reviewer: Paul Saripo

She Burns Red are set to release their debut album ‘Out Of Darkness’

I first discovered She Burns Red at Call of the Wild festival a few years back and have subsequently had the pleasure of attending a few more of their gigs, they always perform a superb live set and engage with the audience.

Hailing from West Lothian, Scotland, the guys have being touring the UK  picking up a loyal fan base over the last two years and deservedly so.

‘Out Of Darkness’ the band’s debut album has had tremendous support from fans who had smashed the Kickstarter goals within a few days of a crowd funding request to help get the practicalities of an album launch underway.

The album opens with ‘Touch’, fast punchy riffs and solid vocals bringing lyrics to life about effects of self-negativity.

‘Rise And Fall’, continues the pace, this track was first released as a single in 2022, powerful lyrics and a solid track that has been instrumental in shaping the direction of the deftly writing found within this album.

Next up is ‘Killing Time’, with menacing base lines this will have you cranking up the volume.

The band have rerecorded ‘Crosshairs‘ which had originally been released on ‘Take Back Tomorrow’ EP in 2020 prior to Scott Hanlon (Drums) and Naz Scanferlato (Guitar) joining James McCulloch (Vocals/Bass) and Andy Moore (Vocals/Guitar)  The re-recording has added a new rounder, deeper sound dimension to the original and takes account of the present diverse line-up.

‘Heavy Is the Head‘ up next with a political theme and hard rock sound, all the tracks on this album are stand out and its difficult to pick favourites, that said this has an edge that has you singing along and going up to volume eleven.

‘Run‘, loving the rhythm of the drums adding angst and energy.

‘Stronger’, a gem on this album that resonates with personal struggles along with being an all-out banger of a song along with ‘Crack The Sky’.

The album closes with the title track ‘Out Of Darkness‘, this grand finale is well placed to lead out of such an impressive album, energetic vocals, heavy rhythm and melodies that flow.

The album will be released on September 15th 2023
