Luke Morley‘s ‘Songs From The Blue Room‘ is an absolute masterpiece, a shining gem in the world of music that showcases the extraordinary talent of Thunder’s lead guitarist and chief songwriter. This sophomore album is a true gift to music enthusiasts, capturing hearts and minds with its remarkable artistry and captivating melodies.

One of the most remarkable aspects of ‘Songs From The Blue Room’ is its intimate and unfiltered quality, reminiscent of heartfelt demos. Morley recorded the majority of the album in his own home studio during the 2020 lockdown, and this personal touch resonates throughout the entire record. As a multi-instrumentalist, Morley’s mastery shines brightly as he skilfully handles almost all the instruments, accompanied by the mesmerizing drumming of Dave McCluskey and the enchanting string sections provided by the talented Bryden Quartet. Additionally, Morley takes on the role of lead vocalist, with the harmonious contributions of Danny Bowes and Ricky Warwick adding depth and beauty to the tracks.

Clocking in at a concise runtime of 38 minutes spread across ten tracks, ‘Songs From The Blue Room‘ is a testament to Morley’s ability to create a perfectly balanced and cohesive listening experience. The album opens with the enchanting ‘I Wanna See The Light‘, where Morley’s luscious vocals and gentle guitar strumming gradually build up to an infectious and feel-good crescendo, setting the tone for the musical journey that lies ahead.

Each track on the album is a work of art in its own right. ‘Killed By Cobain‘ pays homage to Nirvana while offering Thunder’s unique perspective on the grunge era, showcasing Morley’s impeccable vocals, delightful harmonies, and intricate guitar work. ‘Errol Flynn‘ reveals Morley’s delicate and controlled side through heartfelt acoustic strumming and tender lyrics, while ‘Damage‘ takes us on a nostalgic trip with its ’70s Queen-inspired sound. ‘Nobody Cares‘ transports listeners to a realm of profound sadness and heartbreak through its strangely lilting tempo.

Morley effortlessly captures the essence of an irresistible summer vibe in tracks like ‘Watch The Sun Go Down‘, where soothing lyrics, cool guitars, and harmonica create a carefree and solace-filled atmosphere. ‘Cry Like Rain‘ guides us through a rich musical tapestry with Morley’s smooth vocals, while the glorious ‘Lying To Myself‘ unmistakably channels the spirit of the legendary Tom Petty.

I’m The One You Want‘ stands out with its infectious hook and powerful funk-infused guitar line, showcasing Morley’s surprisingly strong voice. The album reaches a touching conclusion with ‘Don’t Be Long’, a track that features a classically poppy intro and beautiful string arrangements by the Bryden Quartet, leaving a lasting impact with its emotive and heartfelt delivery.

In conclusion, ‘Songs From The Blue Room‘ is an exceptional album that deserves every bit of recognition for its impeccable craftsmanship and Luke Morley’s artistic vision. It is a timeless masterpiece that will undoubtedly thrill existing fans while winning over new ones with its sheer brilliance. I eagerly anticipate Luke’s future solo endeavours, as this album has undoubtedly cemented his place amongst the UK’s very finest.
