What if Tim Burton created a metal band?
That idea was what started the new album project for the Swedish cinematic metal band Nocean (Stockholm) two years ago. Their new album ‘Aurora: The Weight of a Shadow‘ will be released just in time for the Halloween weekend, October 29. The album is released both digitally and physically (CD).
“Before Covid-19 even existed, we began to think about how we could think outside the box with which type of stages we would play on. And what direction we wanted to go – so then we decided to do cinematic metal with live concerts on theater stages. “What if Tim Burton created a metal band?” we thought, says singer Hanna Olsson.
“From the very beginning, we created our own gothic characters that we also portray on stage in the project“, says guitarist and producer Oscar Björk.
Concept album with film and performance on Swedish theater stages Nocean‘s third album is a gothic-style concept album with a fictional story of grief. The music is modern metal with cinematic / symphonic and progressive elements. Animated film is integrated in the live show which is booked on several Swedish theater stages this autumn and winter.
“Metal is not usually played for seated audiences, but we want to do so. The tickets are already selling very well, which feels really fun. Perhaps the coolest will be Sundsvall’s big theater in February“, says Hanna Olsson. International followers will be able to watch a digital live show in 360 degrees later on.
A single and 360-video will be released on October 23rd Four singles have so far been released from the album: ‘Who Is The Creature?‘ (which on the album is called The Creature), ‘The Prisoner‘, ‘The Phantom‘ and ‘The Hope‘. There will be another single release before the album is released, the song ‘The Rise‘ which will be out digitally on Friday 23 October along with a 360 degree music video.
Nocean started in 2014 as a classic hard rock band and has since then developed a more modern and cinematic sound with each release. The latest album “Diamond” was released in 2017, followed by shows at Sweden Rock Festival and tours in Europe.
