Glam Punk Legend Michael Monroe Joins a Fantastic Line-Up for Call of the Wild Festival’s Second Coming in 2020

Call of the Wild Festival finalise their line-up announcing the addition of an incandescent star best described as the new Godfather of Rock ‘n’ Roll: the one & only Michael Monroe!
Rising to fame in the late-80s glam rock explosion as the lead singer of cult glam punk outfit Hanoi Rocks — cited as one of the most influential bands upon Guns N’ Roses among many others — Michael Monroe has fronted supergroups Jerusalem Slim and Demolition 23. Arguably, however, his greatest achievement may be his 11th solo studio album ‘One Man Gang’ with his band, which also features the talents of Sami Yaffa (Hanoi Rocks, Jetboy, NY Dolls), Rich Jones (Ginger Wildheart band), Steve Conte (NY Dolls) & Karl Rockfist (Danzig).
Michael Monroe’s recent UK tour has seen shows sold out and gathered rave reviews.

Life doesn’t get much better than when you confirm Michael Monroe to headline the Festival you’ve spent a life dreaming about building,” says Festival Director Raz White with glee, “I became a huge Hanoi Rocks fan back when I was 14 and started to cross over from punk to rock bands. The image, energy and songs just resonated with me. In my humble opinion, easily the greatest frontman to strut the stage. So, this is a huge honour for me and the whole team. We can guarantee this show will be absolutely spectacular!
Michael himself is keen to play the festival and has this message for his fans and the other festivalgoers: “Can’t wait to see you all at Call of the Wild and play this great, upcoming festival.

Further updates on the line-up for 2020:

With Aaron Buchanan emigrating to Australia next year, it will sadly not be possible for him to play at Call of the Wild Festival. However, we are incredibly happy to announce that Los Angeles-based hard rockers Dead Girls Academy will now be direct support to Massive Wagons on Friday. The band was put together by Michael Orlando (frontman of heavy metal band Vampires Everywhere!), who recruited Ronnie Radke (Falling in Reverse) & Elvis Baskette (Slash, Sevendust). Dead Girls Academy have toured with Falling in Reverse, Motionless in White & Isssues.
Other acts confirmed to complete the full line-up are: Planet Rock’s ‘Best New Band’ nominees Hollowstar, pop punk band Colt 45, Avarus & Hell’s Ditch.

After its triumphant debut last year and success this year, Call of the Wild Festival have been not just nominated but shortlisted at the UK Festival Awards 2019 for the BEST NEW FESTIVAL of 2019.
We are absolutely elated to have been shortlisted for ‘Best New Festival’ at this year’s UK Festival Awards,” says Lee Byrne Director/Production Manager, “ This is just the start of what will be a long journey for Call of The Wild Festival, and we would like to thank everyone who has supported the event since its inception. Looks like we’ve done something right!
Motörhead Beer agree and are a main sponsor of Call of the Wild Festival – fitting as their Road Crew Beer will be served at the event; as the festival features the special Kilmister Stage honouring Lemmy; and as Lemmy’s long-standing oppo Phil Campbell will headline Sunday night with Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons.

Call of the Wild’s second cycle takes place between 29th-31st May 2020 at the Lincolnshire Showground, Grange-de-Lings, Lincoln LN2 2NA.

Following the release of their self-titled debut album, unveiled to rapturous support from fans and critics alike back in May of 2019, Cambridgeshire-based rock quartet Hollowstar have seen their stock skyrocket, culminating in a headline UK tour and the announcement of their first excursion onto European soil, touring alongside Skid Row this November. Never the type to rest on their laurels however, the lads are back with a brand new music video for the album’s third single, fan-favourite track ‘Good Man Gone‘, set for release on Friday 27th September.

Holding particular significance for the band members themselves, ‘Good Man Gone‘ pays homage to a childhood friend; one who unfortunately lost the arduous battle with depression that pervades the lives and minds of all too many individuals. Channelling this loss into inspiration, the end result is a powerful tribute that serves both as an epic tale of inner turmoil and a rallying call to listeners, urging them to offer a shoulder to those who need it, rather than a solemn goodbye.

The video itself, produced by Tom Norris of Icarus Films, follows the band throughout their aforementioned headline tour, offsetting the arguably sombre lyrical tone of the song with an energetic showcase of the highs of a life on stage. Intertwining live performance shots with some choice behind-the-scenes moments, the ‘tour diary’ feel of the video allows viewers to join the band on their journey and serves as an apt celebration of the man who inspired it all.

Multi-platinum selling band Skid Row will embark on a full UK tour this year, which will see the New Jersey rockers playing shows across the UK, starting in WINTERSTORM FEST, Scotland on 29th November and ending at The Mill, Birmingham on 8th December. Tickets are on sale on 19th June at 9am on Eventbrite.co.uk.

Skid Row started in 1986 when a group of New Jersey kids, armed with their punk and metal
attitude, and a collection of riff-heavy, high-octane songs, set out to conquer the world, one
concert at a time. This determined and focused approach proved to be an unquestionable
success, as the group went on to clock up numerous Top Ten singles, Gold and multi-Platinum selling albums and a Number 1 on the Billboard albums chart. In other words, the world was theirs.

They might have conquered the world several times over, but guitarist Snake Sabo admits the success hasn’t changed him or the band, and Skid Row are focused on making more earth shattering music. He says: “I will always be that 16-year-old kid in front of the mirror, pretending to be Ace Frehley or Michael Schenker. It’s still about writing a great song with your friends, praying it connects with someone. That has never left me. That willfulness will always exist, and there’s so much left to say!

Joining Skid Row for a special co-headline show at Winterstorm Fest, Scotland is Hollowstar.
Surging into the top five in the ‘Best New Band’ category at Planet Rock’s 2019 awards,
Hollowstar are carving their own route to the top, paved with hard-hitting riffs and cemented by melodic yet inherently impactful lyrics.

Hollowstar will also be supporting Skid Row on every date of their UK tour apart from
Birmingham, along with quintessential British rock’n’roll band The Quireboys. Following the band’s inception in 1984, The Quireboys are certainly enjoying a revival – selling out venues around the world. 2019 saw the release of their new studio album ‘Amazing Disgrace’ – their 12th – on April 5th.

Ultimate sleaze hard rock band Crashdiet will be joining Skid Row on five out of the eight dates of their UK tour. “Go big or go home” has been their motivational “catchphrase” for the Swedish group ever since they started out in 2000. Their undeniable flirt with the 80s big arena rock bands like Guns N’ Rose, Kiss and Skid Row themselves, combined with a notable element of punk, has made them a significant name in the revival of the sleaze and glam genre. In September 2019, they will release their fifth studio album.

Matt Mitchell & The Cold Hearts will be joining Skid Row at both Winterstorm Fest, Scotland and The Mill, Birmingham. Matt started out singing and writing songs in his late teens, leaning his craft in several bands early on and Matt Mitchell & The Cold Hearts is Matt’s solo project with an array of extremely talented guests players. The project got off to a great start, with the first single ‘Black Diamonds’ released on January 25th 2019, being championed across the UK and the rest of the globe.

Review: Hollowstar – Hollowstar

Hollowstar (May 3rd 2019)

Reviewer: David Pearce

Hollowstar’s self-titled debut album explodes out of the speakers with the driving guitars of ‘Take It All’, which sets out their stall as the next wave in UK heavy rock.

By using the two lead guitars of Phil Haines and Tom Collett, they hit the listener with a wall of noise that reminds me of the early 80s pioneers of the dual lead guitar sound Judas Priest. The drums of Jack Bonson are integral to supporting the sound in the same way as Rick Allen of Def Leppard does a lot of the heavy lifting in their songs.

Finally we get to Joe Bonson’s towering vocals. He has a set of pipes very similar to Neville MacDonald of the short lived, but brilliant 90s band Skin. He is able to handle the whole range of a heavy rock singer’s art with seeming ease.

Let You Down‘ is a classic rock track that doesn’t just slavishly copy the genre but brings something new to it and serves notice that these guys can really invigorate the sound and bring it to a new audience. ‘Invincible‘ sees Jack Bonson delivering smooth vocals that demonstrate how easily he can hold the listener in the palm of his hands.

Live performances from Hollowstar are going to be a real event as they move on to bigger and bigger venues. ‘Think of Me‘ is a heavy rock love song in which the lyrics are genuinely heartfelt and all the more impactful for being unexpected. ‘Money‘ starts with an expert guitar riff that sees it act as percussion just as much as it acts as the basis for the tune. It is a bravura piece of playing that shows the sheer talent of the band.

All I Gotta Say‘ is a song about a bad end to a relationship that strikes a note of defiance that will no doubt resonate with many a listener! When you listen to this album the second or third time really focus on the lyrics because Hollowstar take as much time on them as they do on the music, which is by no means universal.

Good Man Gone‘ is another great example of the tightness of the band where all four components just blend together to create rock alchemy. Overrated is definitely something they are not, but Hollowstar have fun with the title and the song will probably become a live favourite with the refrain ‘I know I’ve got the mind of a warrior‘ just asking for a full throated singalong.

Down by the Water‘ is a track that has a hint of Paradise City in the guitar riff and it’s so good that Slash himself would probably be quite happy with the comparison. This incredibly good debut album finishes with ‘Sinner‘, an Aerosmith style full on rocker that leaves you wanting more as every final track should.

Make no mistake there’s real substance to Hollowstar!

The Hollowstar sound is driven by vocalist and bassist Joe Bonson, his brother Jack on drums, and the dual lead guitarists Phil Haines and Tom Collett. Hollowstar’s lyrics that are equal parts catchy and meaningful, creating powerful and memorable sings that reflect the band’s classic rock influences whilst showcasing a distinct modern flair. Citing Thunder, Slash and Black Stone Cherry among their biggest inspirations, the band’s highly honed music and Joe’s impressive pipes are entrenched in classic rock, yet rather than just idly regurgitating their influences, the Hollowstar sound is decidedly fresh and ingrained with their own personality.

Rising Cambridgeshire based rockers Hollowstar look set to close out the year in spectacular style, following up their recent airtime on Planet Rock and BBC Radio 2 with the release of yet more brand new music and a UK wide tour supporting the phenomenal Dan Reed Network. The latest single, ‘Let You Down’, will be made available on all digital platforms on October 19th, with physical copies also available via the band’s online shop.

The track is described by frontman Joe Bonson as, “a message about going out and grabbing what you want after a period of indecision or hesitation in your life. A rallying call to take to your passions wholeheartedly so as to not let yourself or others down.

On the whole ‘Let You Down’ retains much of the signature Hollowstar sound their fans have come to know and love, combining the raw impact of dual lead guitarists Phil Haines and Tom Collett with lyrics that are equal parts catchy and meaningful, creating an end result that reflects the band’s classic rock influences whilst showcasing a distinct modern flair. The location and format of the accompanying music video perfectly befits the intent behind the track, sticking solely to a live performance set in a studio provided by the amazing Alton Wahlberg Music; a location set up with the pure intent of helping up-and-coming musicians thrive doing what they love.

The release comes just weeks before the band head out for their second major tour this year, which sees them supporting none other than Dan Reed Network alongside Glaswegian rock group Mason Hill.

Dan Reed Network are delighted to announce their upcoming ‘Origins’ November 2018 Headline UK Tour that will see the band take in major cities across the UK in support of their impending new album ‘Origins‘ (released November 2018).

Tickets are now on sale from www.danreed-network.com/tickets.

Dan Reed Network will showcase new material from the upcoming album whilst revisiting the hits and reworking some DRN classics in what promises to be a raucous celebration of their inaugural, global, fan immersive recording project ‘Origins.

We wanted to explore the opportunity to make our own decisions and taking ownership of our material, our trajectory and ultimately our love of creating music and entertaining those who support it,” says Dan Reed. “The November UK tour will be an embodiment of that.

The ‘Origins‘ tour is by direct result of Dan Reed Network recording eight songs across three continents in front of 500 fans over the space of six months.

“Our live studio recording days have been a highlight moment in our career,” explains Reed. “Being able to showcase these new songs in a live environment will be a fantastic opportunity to thank and celebrate with those who made them a reality.”

The tour will be DRN’s first UK jaunt since gaining rave reviews when they supported Extreme on their critically acclaimed December 2017 UK tour.

Says Reed; “The love we were shown on that tour, by not just Extreme and their management, but by those who were queuing outside the venue before the concerts, and the reception they gave us during our set, was a fantastic reminder of what we can accomplish.”

Joining the Dan Reed Network on tour in November are two of the best up and coming British rock bands, Mason Hill and Hollowstar.

“There’s a whole new wave of energetic rock bands in the UK who are ready to explode,” reflects Reed. “DRN are thoroughly looking forward to sharing the stage with these talented young bands and hopefully we can help be a small part of their rise to the top!”
