Review: Wicked Stone – Devil In Me (EP)

Factory Music (September 13th 2019)

Reviewer: Dan Mann

Okay let’s start by placing my cards on the table. Wicked Stone, yes I’m a fan!

I first saw them supporting RavenEye at Leo’s Red Lion and when I was booking bands to play the second Fibrofest, Wicked Stone instantly came to mind as a band we needed back at Leo’s.

It’s been a bit of a wait for new material since the band’s release of ‘Ain’t No Rest‘ in 2017, but with everyone working and with other commitments it’s more than understandable.

So, was it worth the wait, a wait that seems longer being an inpatient fan?

Two words……….damn right!

One thing I like about Wicked Stone‘s releases is they capture the full on intensity of the band’s live shows. Fat riffs and a pounding bass & drumline help propel the tracks deep inside your earlugs.

From the opening onslaught of ‘Couldn’t Take Anymore‘ to the last track on the EP, ‘Devil In Me‘ you don’t catch a breather, the infectious, foot stomping assault gives no quarter.

This is a ‘no brainer’, add ‘Devil In Me‘ to your music collection.

After receiving the promo came news of line up change. I hope the band manage to get onto that illusive next rung and get the attention they justly deserve.

British rockers Wicked Stone have released an Official Lyric video for ‘Couldn’t Take Anymore‘.

Formed in 2015, Wicked Stone wasted no time in establishing themselves as one of the UK’s hottest up and coming acts. Their debut album, ‘Ain’t No Rest’, was released in October 2017 to critical acclaim. With a sound that references the touchstones of classic rock but with an unmistakably modern edge, ‘Ain’t No Rest’ won the band a whole legion of fans.

Wicked Stone are a formidable live act, thriving on the interaction between band and audience, ensuring that their live shows are fun and exhilarating and most importantly

unforgettable. The band has appeared across the country, winning over audiences everywhere, none more so than at their acclaimed appearances at the prestigious Ramblin’ Man Fair, Breaking Bands, Planet Rock’s Winters End, Fibrofest and Hard Rock Hell festivals.

Their up-coming new release, ‘Devil In Me‘, set for release Friday 13th September 2019, sees Wicked

Stone’s take on a more powerful, harder edge without sacrificing the anthemic choruses and big hooks for which they are renowned. Lyrically more mature, musically more evolved, their high-energy new opus looks set to take the music world by storm.

Wicked Stone will be hitting the road at the end of the year in support of their new E.P. Catch them in a city near you. Get ready for the ride…

Last In Line - Heavy Crown artwork

On Friday 19 February, Frontiers Music SRL will release one of the most highly anticipated Hard Rock releases of 2016: the debut album from Last In Line, ‘Heavy Crown‘.

Formed by three original members of Dio including Def Leppard’s Vivian Campbell (guitar), Vinny Appice (drums) and Jimmy Bain (bass) and named after DIO’s 1984 studio album ‘The Last In Line‘, the band are on a mission to bring classic hard rock to fans who can’t get enough of the real thing. The album will be released on CD, CD/DVD (including a bonus track) and digital formats. Pre-order the album here: http://radi.al/LastInLine.

First single, ‘Devil In Me’ was premiered on Planet Rock (UK) and SiriusXM (US) on Monday, November 16th. The single is now available as an instant grat with digital pre-orders from iTunes and AmazonMP3.

Says guitarist Vivian Campbell, “When we started this project a few years ago, the initial idea was to reunite the original Dio band to play the songs we wrote and recorded with Ronnie in the early 1980’s. Joined by Andrew Freeman on vocals, we played a handful of shows in southern California, the UK, and Japan. It was a limited ambition, but it brought us great joy in reconnecting to this great music, to each other, and to our collective history.”

“When we first got together as the Last In Line line-up, our ambition at that time didn’t extend to writing and recording any new music, says Campbell, “but when we were offered the opportunity to do so by Frontiers, we decided to enter the studio to write this new album in the very same spirit as we did the Holy Diver album;  Back in 1982 Ronnie, Vinny, Jimmy and I went into Sound City studios to kick around ideas and riffs, and about six weeks later we started laying down the tracks for what was to become the Holy Diver album.”
