Supersonic Blues Machine will be releasing their brand new live-album, ‘Road Chronicles: Live!’ on 12th July 2019 via Provogue/Mascot Label Group.

Road Chronicles: Live‘ is their first live album, following the release of two acclaimed records, ‘West of Flushing, South of Frisco’ (2016), ‘Californisoul’ (2017) and it follows them on their first European headline tour and was recorded during their show in Brugnera, Italy on 20th July 2018, capturing the band in a triumphant and joyous mood.

The show was the final one of a 10 date tour that started at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London and took them through Switzerland, Poland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain and finally bassist Fabrizio Grossi’s native Italy. The legendary Billy F. Gibbons joined the band throughout the tour putting in the stunning performances that you would expect from such an icon and it was the first tour to feature fast-rising UK blues-rocker Kris Barras on lead vocals and guitar, taking over from Lance Lopez.

The funny thing is,” remembers Grossi, “that we were not planning to record a live record, the recordings we were capturing  were just for me to study and evaluate at the end of the tour, but as soon as were done with the last show in Brugnera, the promoter was celebrating with us and asked me “do you have a flash drive with you so I can give you tonight’s recordings?” That’s when I realized they recorded all the tracks isolated, and the curiosity started creeping in. Gibbons who was with me when I first opened up the tracks. I couldn’t stop smiling.

As there wasn’t any plans to record the show at the time, they approached it like any other and things just fell into place.  It just felt perfect; the weather, the set-list, the band were tight and then there was the crowd. “The cheers, noises and crazy antics people do when they come to see us, it’s extremely humbling and energizing” explains Grossi.

The set list weaved through the two Supersonic albums – ‘West of Flushing’s….’ (‘Remedy,’ ‘Whatchagonnado’ and ‘Running Whiskey’) and ‘Californisoul,’ (‘I Am Done Missing You’, ‘Elevate’ and ‘Broken Heart’) as well as some ZZ Top classics and surprises thrown in. “The beauty of this band is that we always bring around or have guests joining us on stage, we get used to hearing our music taking the most unexpected turns and shapes every night,” he says.  “As soon as the intro tape stops, we kind of unleash the Kraken…..the Soul Kraken,” he laughs. Drummer Kenny Aronoff, Barras and Grossi are the faces and the core of the band with The Reverend Gibbons and the party is rounded off with Alex Alessandroni Jr. on keyboards, Serge Simic on guitar and Andrea and Francis Benitez Grossi on background vocals.

With a prolific career as a producer, mixer and bass player Grossi has worked with some of the finest musicians around today pulling into an array of eclectic styles, from Steve Vai to Tina Arena, Nina Hagen to Alice Cooper as well as Glenn Hughes, Dave Navarro, George Clinton, Joe Bonamassa, Leslie West, Zakk Wylde, Ice T, Slash and Paul Stanley to name a few.  New York native but Indiana raised Aronoff brought with him the experience of working with a huge collection of artists such as John Mellencamp, Smashing Pumpkins, Meat Loaf, Brandon Flowers, John Fogerty, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Joe Cocker amongst a host of others.

An incredible list of collaborators gives the band added warmth and propels it on to another level; Billy F. Gibbons, Walter Trout, Warren Haynes, Robben Ford, Eric Gales, Joe Louis Walker, Steve Lukather, Chris Duarte all have joined the band on record and/or live, with them all having  a deep and personal connection to Grossi and Aronoff.

We could have done records and shows that was jam packed of famously random guests, but we didn’t want to do that. That’s not the idea.” He elaborates, “They’re not just guests, those guys are part of our family and just happened to show up on that song, these guys will always be part of our life, they are so important to the sound of Supersonic Blues Machine.

Billy F Gibbons will release a brand new solo album, ‘The Big Bad Blues‘ on September 21st.

Concord Records is releasing ‘The Big Bad Blues‘, ZZ Top legend Billy F Gibbons’ second-ever solo release, on September 21, 2018. This is the follow-up to his acclaimed 2015 Afro-Cuban-flavored solo album ‘Perfectamundo‘.

The Big Bad Blues‘, as the title suggests, focuses on Gibbons’ lifelong love of the blues and rock & roll, showcasing the blues-influenced vocals and guitar licks that have together served as the foundation for his numerous hits over the past five decades. The album features 11 tracks balancing some classic covers like ‘Rollin’ and Tumblin‘ and ‘Standing Around Crying,’ along with some of Billy’s signature new blues originals.

We successfully made our way through those uncharted waters with the Cubano flavor of Perfectamundo and completed the journey,” says Gibbons in distinguishing ‘The Big Bad Blues‘ from its predecessor. “The shift back to the blues is a natural. It’s something which our followers can enjoy with the satisfaction of experiencing the roots tradition and, at the same time, feeling the richness of stretching the art form.

Gibbons, of course, has long been one of the most important and influential artists to emerge from the blues traditions, carrying it forward in a career honored by his 2004 induction, with ZZ Top, into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As he notes, he was blues-influenced “right from the beginning—and it’s never let up.

There’s something very primordial within the art form,” he says. “Nobody gets away from the infectious allure of those straight-ahead licks!

He notes it would take many hours just to scratch the surface surrounding this enduring love affair: “I suspect Jimmy Reed did me in early on. The inventiveness of that high and lonesome sound remains solid and stridently strong to this day. We could go on to mention the lineup of usual suspects, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy, all three Kings [B.B., Albert and Freddie]. The lengthy list of champions are forever carved in stone.

After the success of ‘Perfectamundo‘, Concord Records president John Burk expressed his intent on following up with another artistic offering with a more familiar, bluesy kind of content. “Billy has an incredibly deep knowledge of the great blues tradition and has carried that tradition forward in his music throughout his incredible career. Therefore, it seemed natural to do a project that centered on his musical roots, and the music that so inspired him from the very beginning.

Gibbons remarked, “We were delighted to follow suit: It’s steeped in the tradition of ‘BFG meets blues giants’ with an adventurous expression to keep it fresh.

BFG and Burk met in an underground parking garage of a favorite Hollywood bistro from the comforts of JB’s top-down ride, playing some tracks, LOUD, with the music bouncing off the walls beneath a couple floors of raw concrete.”… Gibbons got the nod. He and his “greasy” gang of unbridled players were delivering the goods.

From deep in the heart of Texas, our Hammond organ specialist, Mr. Mike Flanigin, stepped forward and accepted the invitation to step from the B3 bench to take on the task of pounding the ivory 88’s,” says Gibbons, adding, “Great piano stuff from Mike ‘The Drifter’ Flanigin.”

Master of the Fender Bass-guitar, Joe Hardy lent his low-down sound with his fearless funkiness, SO fine!

Also, in the mash-up mix, the man-with-the-backbeat-plan, Greg Morrow. G keeps the skins alive and kickin’. And while we’re on that backbeat thang…

Matt Sorum steps forward with his super-syncopation, thrashing the skins like no buddies business. Alabama–come-California soulster Austin Hanks, roughs up the riffs with his left-handed six-string electric. Have mercy!

Gibbons himself shares the harmonica chops with James Harman who has appeared over the years doin’ that Mississippi-sounding thing. “James is the fastidiously fierce follower of the real deal when it comes to blowing’ the harp. As for the album content, check it out… Hey now!

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” he says. “It’s no secret there are several favorites from the way-back starting with not one, but two, from the Bo Diddley catalog [‘Bring It to Jerome’ and ‘Crackin’ Up’]. We dusted off an old Gretsch Duo-Jet guitar which put it squarely with that infamous Bo Diddley sound. Once covered, we made way into another side—a much earlier number from Muddy Waters, ‘Standing Around Crying.’  The ragged edges with the meanness of James’ bad self on harp seemed to fit the bill to enter the lineup.

As for favorites, Gibbons notes, “Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’ is a gift from Miz Gibbons. She knows what girls want and laid it out cold. And ‘Second Line’ is a definite throwback to many good days and nights down New Orleans way.

Other tracks on ‘The Big Bad Blues‘ are easy pickin’, sayin’ it all.  It’s a street affair.

Track list (all songs by Billy F Gibbons except where noted):
1) Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’ (Gilly Stillwater)
2) My Baby She Rocks
3) Second Line
4) Standing Around Crying (Muddy Waters)
5) Let The Left Hand Know…
6) Bring It To Jerome (Jerome Green)
7) That’s What She Said
8) Mo’ Slower Blues
9) Hollywood 151
10) Rollin’ and Tumblin’ (Muddy Waters)
11) Crackin’ Up (Bo Diddley)

Tour dates to be announced soon.

Supersonic Blues Machine & Friends with very special guest Billy F. Gibbons will be coming to the UK for their debut headline show at London’s prestigious, O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on Wednesday 4th July.

They have just announced the support acts for the night which are Chicago based but Isle of Man born blues-rocker Davy Knowles. The Joe Satriani approved axe-slinger has had 3 Top 5 Billboard blues albums and most recent record ‘Three Miles From Avalon’ (2016) was met with widespread critical acclaim. Also joining the bill is the fantastic Rob Chapman (Dorje/Rob Chapman Band/Chapman Guitars) whose YouTube tutorials have over 230m combined views.

Following the release of two acclaimed albums ‘West of Flushing, South of Frisco‘ (2016), ‘Californisoul‘ (2017) and a triumphant performance on the main stage at Ramblin’ Man Fair last summer where Classic Rock Magazine declared them a “revelation” the band are embarking on their first ever European tour and it will be one not to be missed.

Talking about the show Fabrizio says; “I am really excited about this tour. Since by mission, we’re more of a music community than a regular band, it hasn’t been easy to get all these friends in the same place and at the same time, but finally, thanks to the overwhelming fans support and demand, we were able to start off the Machine and finally get it on the road for more than just one off Festival appearance at the time.

Continuing he adds, “We have assembled a ridiculously great cast of buddies that is ready to lay it down as it should and you will experience it first hand at Shepherds Bush Empire. Why starting off in London? Well it’s SBM way to thank the amazingly supportive UK fans that have been requesting us since our first release. I personally love the Big Smoke and what it represents culturally and musically, for me, my family and band mates. Blues might have been born in Mississippi, but it’s only with the UK help that was made popular and loved by never shrinking crowds around the globe. And I love the openness of the UK fans.

The legendary and very special guest Billy F. Gibbons features on both albums will be joining the band for the whole tour. The core of the band is bassist/Producer Fabrizio Grossi who has worked with everyone from Steve Vai, Alice Cooper and Glenn Hughes to Dave Navarro, George Clinton, Slash and Paul Stanley to name a few and drummer Kenny Aronoff. Kenny has contributed to more than 60 Grammy® nominated recordings and over 300 million records sold worldwide feature his talents and is known for his work with John Fogerty, Sir Paul McCartney, John Mellencamp, The Smashing Pumpkins and Chickenfoot amongst others.

For this tour they welcome rising star Kris Barras on all dates with former guitarist Lance Lopez concentrating on his recent solo release and touring in support of it. Kris has exploded to the front of the British Blues Rock pack with his new album ‘The Divine And Dirty’ released last month and will be joining the line-up following his own April-May UK tour with Beth Hart. Together with its guests and Kris Barras, the band is also bringing along  keyboard wiz Alex Alessandroni Jr (Stevie Wonder, Pink, Paul Stanley, Whitney Houston and many more), the backing vocals Supersonnets (credits spanning from Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Jon Anderson, Shakira) and Fabrizio’s co-writer partner for the majority of SBM catalogue Serge Simic on second guitar and vocals. For the London show they will also be joined by blues-rocker Davy Knowles who counts Bernie Marsden and Joe Satriani amongst his admirers, the latter declaring that he is his “favourite modern bluesman.”

Latest album ‘Californisoul’ was released on Provogue/Mascot Label Group late 2017 and features guests Billy F. Gibbons, Steve Lukather, Eric Gales, Robben Ford and Walter Trout.

CALIFORNISOUL! That’s exactly what it is. It’s the missing soundtrack to a summertime drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco in 1971!” ~ Fabrizio Grossi

They started touring life with a huge bang, playing to thousands of fans in Norway for their debut show and spent much of 2017 sharing the extravaganza with audiences from Texas, Holland, India, Russia, UK and now it’s time to bring the show for its first major headline tour.

Supersonic Blues Machine isn’t just a band; it’s a mood, a comradeship, a melting pot of ideas with like minded people bringing their own unique talents to create something with feeling that is very organic. “I was thinking of all the people we know and thought, how about putting together something like The Who or The Rolling Stones used to do in the early 70s” he adds, “they would put together a record and bring all of their friends on board, I thought that would be cool. Bring back the spirit of camaraderie between musicians” says Fabrizio
