Black Whiskey

Former Xentrix and Hellfighter front man, Simon Gordon, has spoken about his new band, Black Whiskey, ahead of a concert with fellow Londoners Four Wheel Drive at The Borderline club in London this weekend (Sat 24th May).

Simon Gordon was the vocalist with Xentrix from 1994-1997, during which time the band toured and released the album “Scourge.”  In 2008 he formed Hellfighter with former Xentrix band mates Kristian Havard and Dennis Gasser, releasing the “Damnation’s Wings” album in 2011 to widespread critical acclaim. Regarding Black Whiskey he said:

“This is a real change for me.  I’m also working on some really heavy new music this year with a well known band, which I’ll be able to talk about in due course, but Black Whiskey has been an opportunity for me to relax and sing some really stripped back, straight ahead rock music.   It’s been a real blast and has a very organic feel to it.  I’ve been drawing on influences from the 70’s and 80’s, timeless bands that I used to listen to when I was a kid, so there are nods to Zeppelin, Free, UFO, MSG, Rainbow, Scorpions and other bands in there.  I’ve been lucky enough to find a great, bluesy guitarist to work with and we’ve written some strong songs.”

Black Whiskey has recorded 5 songs, which are available to stream here: www.soundcloud.com/blackwhiskeyuk and available to download via iTunes and other online retailers.  The band is currently writing more songs and plans to record and release a full album by the end of 2014.  Meanwhile they have confirmed a UK festival appearance at the Rock Circus Festival on September 14th2014 and a show with NWOBHM legends, Chrome Molly on October 25th 2014.

Simon Gordon is joined in Black Whiskey by guitarist Kev Ingles, drummer Rich Bannister and bassist Mark T. Parkin (whose experience includes bass duties in the solo band of legendary producer Steve Booker).  More information can be found on their Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/blackwhiskeyuk

Blackwelder

Blackwelder, the brand new metal experience featuring some of the top names in power prog metal today, streaming the brand new song ‘The Night Of New Moon‘. The band is currently recording and mixing its as-yet-untitled album for a late 2014 release via GoldenCore/ZYX Music. The CD will be mixed by Matt Smith (Theocracy). The song can be streamed below.

https://soundcloud.com/blackwelder/blackwelder-the-night-of-new-moon

Blackwelder are:

Ralf Scheepers – Vocals (Primal Fear, ex-Gamma Ray)
Andrew Szucs – Guitar (Seven Seraphim)
Bjorn Englen – Bass (Dio Disciples, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen)
Aquiles Priester – Drums (Hangar, ex-Angra)

One of the best singers in all of metal, Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear, ex-Gamma Ray) fronts this extraordinary outfit at the top of his game, alongside guitar virtuoso Andrew Szus (Seven Seraphim). Bjorn Englen (Dio Disciples, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen) and Aquiles Priester (Hanger, ex-Angra) round out this unstoppable team of what quite possibly could be one of the greatest lineups metal has ever seen.

Blackwelder began as the long-awaited follow up to Seven Seraphim’s “Believe in Angels”. Bit by bit, as the songs materialized, it became evident to mainman Andrew Szucs that this music should carry the banner of a new musical entity, emerging from a richer, darker source thus, Blackwelder was born.

Andrew began this musical journey alone, however, once he completed the framework for all of the songs, the band members began to fall into place like pieces of a puzzle.

Bjorn Englen was the first to climb aboard, expertly adding his bass lines to the songs. Bjorn would later go on tour with Tony MacAlpine alongside drummer Aquiles Priester, after which, it seemed only natural to keep this rhythm section in tact for Blackwelder.

Once Andrew‘s guitars were recorded, it became evident that a true powerhouse vocalist was needed to carry these songs to completion. Not just any voice would do. Blackwelder would need the stratospheric vocal stylings characterized by the rich tradition of European heavy metal, and who better to do that than the voice of Primal Fear: Ralf Scheepers. Like a dragon with its fire, Ralf‘s voice and lyrical themes are a natural fit to the songs of Blackwelder; blending and contrasting with the Marshall-based guitar tones in perfect harmony.

Topping off this powerful lineup is the unparalleled drumming of Aquiles Priester. Andrew and Aquiles agreed to finish the songs with Aquiles‘ unique pyrotechnic display of progressive metal drumming techniques and what a display it is.

Blackwelder is a winning formula of raw musical virtuosity that holds the listener’s ears right from the start. This act is surely not one to be missed and cannot be denied!
