Paris - Only One Life

The Melodic Rock newcomer PARIS is made up of Frédéric Dechavanne and Sébastien Montet. The duo took its songs to Alessandro Del Vecchio (Lionville, Hardline, Issa), who produced the catchy rocking AOR of the PARIS debut “Only One Life” with the help of an international line-up of studio musicians including Anna Portalupi (Lionville, Hardline) on bass, Alessandro Mori (Mitch Malloy, Lionville) on drums, as well as Robert Säll (Work Of Art / W.E.T) on guitar and Steve Newman (Newman, Big Life) on backing vocals.

The band is now presenting its debut record which was released on April 12th through the Avenue Of Allies label in a video trailer, which can be watched below:

The album is available as CD from well-assorted record stores and worldwide from various mailorder companies as well as the big online retailers. Only One Life is also available as HQ digital download.

JUDAS PRIEST, the heavy metal legends whose influence on generations of musicians and metalheads is incalculable, celebrate their 40th year as recording artists this year with the release of the live concert, Epitaph. A unique live career retrospective, Epitaph will be released on Blu-ray and separate DVD on May 28th through Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. This release precedes a new studio album by Judas Priest which the band are working on now.

The official trailer has been released can be viewed below:

Judas Priest’s current lineup comprises lead singer Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis. Heavy metal historians will regard Epitaph as the most far-reaching live concert recording in the band’s career. The set revisits the climactic closing date of the 50-week Epitaph World Tour, captured live at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo on May 26th, 2012. Adding to the drama is the fact that this was Judas Priest’s final large-scale world tour ever.

Epitaph’s 23 tracks represent at least one song from every one of the band’s 14 studio albums, from 1974’s Rocka Rolla (‘Never Satisfied’) to 2008’s Nostradamus (‘Prophecy’). In the special case of British Steel, four songs are featured: ‘Rapid Fire’, ‘Metal Gods’, ‘Breaking The Law’, and perennial set closer, ‘Living After Midnight’. Others exempted from the one-song-quota are the LPs which appeared before and after British Steel. The first of these is 1979’s Hell Bent For Leather (UK title: Killing Machine) which lends the title song as well as ‘The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown)’. The other LP is 1982’s Screaming For Vengeance, source of ‘The Hellion’, ‘Electric Eye’, and ‘You’ve Got Another Thing Coming’.

Epitaph

“They have epitomized the genre with their Harley riding frontman, rapid-fire guitar assaults, and spectacular stage shows,” wrote journalist Bryan Reesman in his liner notes for 2004’s leather-bound, metal-spiked Metalogy box set. “Influential, innovative, and exuberant in expression,” he wrote, “they are the true Metal Gods who have been as unwavering in their desire to expand the boundaries of their music as they have been in crossing international borders to deliver it to their disciples.”

“Unabashedly committed to their cause, and unrepentant in proclaiming themselves a true heavy metal band even when others have shied away from the term, Judas Priest have forever been defenders of the faith.”

Epitaph tracklisting:

‘Battle Hymn’
‘Rapid Fire’
‘Metal Gods’
‘Heading Out To The Highway’
‘Judas Rising’
‘Starbreaker’
‘Victim Of Changes’
‘Never Satisfied’
‘Diamonds And Rust’
‘Prophecy’

KINGDOM COME’s new album, Outlier, will be released worldwide through SPV/Steamhammer and will be available as CD and download in Germany on April 26th, in Europe on April 29th and in the US/Canada on May 7th.

The band has just released the official video for their new single ‘God Does Not Sing Our Song’ below:

Leader Lenny Wolf comments: “Some people asked me to share a few thoughts about my single called ‘God Does Not Sing Our Song’. I think the song itself speaks louder than words, but I will try to share some thoughts behind the obvious.

Why did I write that song? Because I am a musician.

Why that title? The title is reflecting my thoughts about people abusing the “name of God” to justify their sick and often very destructive behavior. God may be watching but I’m sure he is “NOT always singing along”.

Outlet

What makes you decide in which form you create a song? I got no master plan. I am more like a five year old plugging the guitar chord into the endless audio universe hoping to catch some cool frequencies. Lately I caught a lot of heavy guitar signals which were asking to be used in a powerful song. I tried my best;-)

Do I believe in God? I believe in a higher force which can be called God or orange shoe. I don’t need to sit in a men made building with steep roofs to “feel closer or more connected”, but if that works for other people, that of course is perfectly alright. In whichever direction or whatever name people are praying to, I rather follow a good heart than thousands of pre written phrases.

What is my outlook on our future? Fanaticism and ignorance is a deadly combination. We got a lot of this around poisoning our planet. I don’t have the answer to it all, but I think it would be a great first step to go by a simple saying: “Live and let live” – with enough space and respect for one another. As long as people trying to force their believes onto others, we are bound to have conflicts coming our way. Some should remember weather they are guests or locals before wanting to change the furniture!

In case I bored you, next time I will write about something much more original like: Oohh babe, I will never leave you, I’ll do anything for you, tonight is the night, I’m so sorry, please let me bend over so that you can find the perfect place to kick me harder than ever… etc. etc.”

Outlier features the following tracklisting:

‘God Does Not Sing Our Song’
‘Running High Distortion’
‘Rough Ride Ralleye’
‘Let The Silence Talk’
‘Holy Curtain’
‘The Trap Is Alive’
‘Skip The Cover And Feel’
‘Don`t Want You To Wait’
‘Such A Shame’
‘When Colors Break The Grey’

Outlier was recorded at Wolf’s own Hamburg studio, the Two Square Noise Factory. With the exception of the solo guitar parts contributed by Eric Förster, all instruments were recorded by the Kingdom Come boss himself. In addition, Wolf produced, engineered, mixed and mastered his new album. “Eighteen-months of struggle and madness lie behind me, a period which saw me go through the usual alternating bath of euphoria and doubt. As an artist, you can never be quite sure just what you’ve cooked up, but I happen to be an idealist and simply have to keep embarking on new adventurous journeys. The path of predictability has never satisfied me.”

Outlier is Kingdom Come’s first studio album featuring completely new material since the arrival of their 2009 release, Magnified. The album is bound to provoke discussion, in every respect, which is precisely the intention Lenny has with his compositions: “I never write to please anybody, I simply stretch my means of expression as a musician as far as possible. Always in the hope that others will like the result.”

Well I had a blast at HRH AOR it has to be said.

An amazing venue, the Magna Centre in Rotherham is an old steel works, how metal is that?

I saw as many acts as I could between doing interviews with various artists. Here’s a quick round up.

Day 1

DSCF0649

First on the bill were Spill Sixteen, a local band who despite early sound issues gave us a solid performance full of enthusiasm despite the small crowd. It’s this influx of new young bands that need our support.

Colin Murdock (Daylight Robbery)

Next up Daylight Robbery, one of the bands on my ‘list’ to see. and they didn’t disappoint. Singer Tony Nicholl has the type of rock voice that really appeals to me. They set the bar high for the rest of the bands to follow in my opinion.

Sue Willetts (DanteFox)

Managed to catch most of Dante Fox’s performance. Sue Willetts sounded nervous between songs but those nerves didn’t show during an excellent performance with new material off their latest album Lost Man’s Ground standing up well to a live rendition. Tiim Manford (Dante Fox)

Next up were Romeo’s Daughter with the lovely Leigh Matty on vocals. This is a band who have a real soft spot in the hearts of AOR fans and it was great to hear those great songs from the first album live again as well of course songs from Rapture and their comeback album, Delectable.

Danny Vaughn 2

I was looking forward to seeing Danny Vaughn having not seen him sing live since seeing him with Tyketto rather a long time ago! The crowd was buzzing as Danny gave us a superb performance of solo material from across his albums as well as some Tyketto tunes. There was a technical issue during his set, but ever the professional it did not affect Danny and his bands delivery of a great set. Danny Vaughn 1

Again due to interviews etc I didn’t get to see the whole of the next set from British AOR legends FM.

Steve Overland & Merv Goldsworthy (FM)

They really did deserve to have been bigger back in the 80’s, another well documented case of a UK band who didn’t hit the big time in the way people expected. And not due to lack of talent nor superb material. It’s so obvious how much the band still enjoy playing live, and I’m glad I managed to see them after again more years then I should mention.

And then what has to be one of the bands top of my list to see over the weekend. Jeff Keith, Brian Wheat (Tesla)

That band of course is Tesla, a band I never managed to see in those heady days of the late 80’s/early 90’s. Was I disappointed? Was I hell, I loved every minute of their set which peaked with an absolutely rocking Modern Day Cowboy.

Vega In quite a quirky end to the day’s line-up, Vega came on after the headliners!

It’s a real shame that the audience had diminished somewhat. But that certainly didn’t deter them from playing a great set to an appreciative crowd.

I rushed over to the second ‘stage’, which wasn’t a stage, in fact there wasn’t even a drum riser! Mia Klose

It was rather a long way it has to be said, I kept thinking I was about to find myself in Sheffield.

The reason for the rush was to catch a couple of songs from Swedish singer Mia Klose. Her album London, released last year, is full of  late 80’s feel good songs. Considering the restraints of the second stage, Miss Klose and her band played a very tight set.

Day 2

Niki (Barbe-Q-Barbies)

First band of the Sunday was Barbe-Q-Barbies. I’ll be honest and say I’m not overly familiar with their material having only heard their album Breaking All The Rules a couple of times. But again as like Spill Sixteen, the fact they were on first with a small crowd it did nothing to water down their set. Kaisa Karjalainen (Barbe-Q-Barbies)They remind me in some ways of the likes of Rock Goddess or Girlschool which is no bad thing.

Andrew Hunt (Buffalo Summer)3

Next we had Welsh rockers Buffalo Summer, a band I first heard on Jim Hussell’s Rock Show.

Very much in the Black Crows school of rock, they delivered a very polished performance and I can see them only growing in stature due to their delivery of some solid material. Darren King (Buffalo Summer)

H.E.A.T.There was no way I was going to miss the next band. I’ve been wanting to see H.e.a.t. since their first album.

They’ve only got better and better in my humble opinion. They were without doubt one of the act of the whole weekend with Erik Grönwall bouncing round the stage like Tigger after ten espressos! Erik Grönwall (H.E.A.T.)

The band are just so tight and any signs of the fact they’d barely had any sleep over the two previous days weren’t evident. Yes I sang along during Downtown, my favorite song from their third album Address The Nation.

What they did was left me impatient to see them again, something you always want from a band.

Jimmy Jay (H.E.A.T.)

I missed Ten unfortunately due to my other commitments but I was not going to miss seeing Moritz on the big stage. Moritz 2

The audience rapidly filled up as the band delivered a World class set of AOR & melodic rock. If the audience had known that vocalist Peter Scallan hadn’t sung live, with the exception of a few warm up gigs, since 1989 then they would of been totally gobsmacked!!

Pete Scallan (Moritz)

Any nerves the band had before they hit the stage were not in evidence, and it was plain to see how much this meant to them and how much they were enjoying the whole experience.

I was so pleased to see how they were received by the audience and there is no doubt they left the stage having gained a raft of new fans.

It takes a brave man to take to the stage armed only with an acoustic guitar.

Kip Winger

That man was Kip Winger. People who might only remember him as the front man of Winger will be doing him a disservice as his song writing is exceptional, and Kip delivered us a master class.

Rachel Bolan (Skid Row)  I’ve not seen Skid Row since about 1990 and so I’ve not seen them with Johnny Solinger on vocals.

Now they were most certainly a ‘Marmite’ band at HRH with myself being firmly in the ‘loved them’ camp.

No Seb’s not in the band, Johnny’s been the singer far longer then Seb was. Johnny Solinger

For me they were loud, hard & raw, just how I wanted them.

JSS

Now I didn’t think I’d manage to see any of Jeff Scott Soto’s set seeing as how he didn’t hit the stage until nearly 1am on Monday morning!

But I managed to last long enough to see the first few songs. BJ (Jeff Scott Soto Band)JSS is held in high regard as a vocalist and that is because he is! Plain & simple. Wish I’d seen all of the set as he was joined on stage by Nathan James to duet on Stand Up. If you’ve seen the YouTube footage of this you’ll understand why.

And there you have it, two days full of great music.

I shall be broadcasting the interviews I recorded over the next couple of show.

JSS1

American melodic rock star Jeff Scott Soto kicks off his first full European tour since 2009 this week with four dates in the UK:

04.04.13   Belfast   The Limelight
05.04.13   Birmingham   The Asylum
06.04.13   London  Camden Underworld
07.04.13   Rotherham   Hard Rock Hell AOR Festival

Jeff will be touring with his current band line-up comprising; Jorge Salán (guitar), Fernando Mainer (bass), ‘BJ’ (guitar/keys/vocals) and Edu
Cominato
(drums/vocals) and will be showcasing his current solo album ‘Damage Control’, as well as tracks from his solo and front-man roles across his entire career.

The dates will see JSS supported by none other than his guitarist Jorge Salan’s solo trio as well as an exciting new band from Athens named Danger Angel.

Jeff recorded vocals to one of Salán’s songs on the Chronicles Of An Evolution’ album back in 2007, which is what led to bringing him into the JSS band, and Jorge’s latest album ‘Sexto Asalto’ (‘Sixth Assault’) will be available along with his other releases at each show. To watch the latest video/single Cero 16, visit www.jorgesalan.com

Danger Angel came to Jeff’s attention back in 2009 when he was asked to participate on a track for their 2010 debut album. The band parted ways with their vocalist and brought in a more prominent vocalist named ‘MT’ to help them find a new direction and focus, recruiting Soto to produce their follow up album, ‘Revolutia’, of which Jeff was “beyond proud to be a part”. Jeff also sings most of the backing vocals on the album as well as sharing some lead vocals on the single When I’m Gone’. Visit http://www.dangerangelband.com> for more details about this upcoming new band.

It is with great pride that Jeff is ‘presenting’ these two acts as a sort of ‘Soto-palooza’ roadshow in which he implores: “EVERYONE to be on time for a great night of music and many surprises throughout the show. it will be an evening of great rock ‘n roll, fun and memories so get there at the time the venues say to get there!!

Jeff has most recently been in the public eye with the widely acclaimed release in February 2013 of the second album by the melodic rock ‘supergroup’ W.E.T., for whom he is the lead singer.

A newly published authorised biography of Jeff Scott Soto entitled Stand Up And Shout…The Story Of A Rock Star will be available to purchase during the tour on USB format. Author Frank Tunney states that: “I wanted this to be a biography that wasn’t based on ‘kiss and tell’ but doesn’t pull any punches and tells you everything you wanted to know. I hope every fan of Jeff Scott Soto and Melodic Rock will find plenty in ‘Stand Up And Shout…’ that will both surprise, delight and leave them wanting more.” Jeff himself comments: “…it has EVERYTHING I have done in it! There are a lot of inputs from many I have worked with in the business but one thing it’s not and that’s a tell-all…I don’t want an exploitation book out there, it’s not necessary, this is more of a chronicle of my life and leaves no stone unturned!”
